The worm, with its color of golden yellow with red and green, has a rich body, full of pulp, moves slowly and looks terrible. It is mostly distributed in the topsoil layer of paddy fields at the junction of fresh and salty water, in the silt, and comes out of the mud surface only when it reproduces. Feeding on grass and plants, the body is 3-4 centimeters long, pink in color, sometimes turning creamy yellow or green, rich in protein and vitamins. The seasonality of the growth of harvestmen is very strong, Xinhui harvestmen only come out every year in March, April and the first and fifteenth of August of the lunar calendar when the tide is high. When the Harvest Worms appear, they float densely on the water surface of the river gushes, which is quite spectacular. Farmers stand guard at the outlets of the river gushes and catch them at the right time. In the 1950s and 1960s, hundreds of catties of worms could be caught at a time, and they would return home in their farm boats fully loaded. Since the application of pesticides on farmland, the number of caterpillars has gradually decreased. After strengthening the protection of natural ecosystems, the number of worms in Xinhui has increased, but it is still small and expensive. China has experience in artificial breeding of harvested insects.
