The eight bowls come from the Manchu-Han banquet.
During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, it was at its peak. During the Qianlong period, the political situation was stable, the economy was developing, and the catering market was unprecedentedly prosperous. Among them, the "Man-Han Banquet" dominated the catering industry. The Man-Han Banquet was divided into "upper eight delicacies", "middle eight delicacies" and "lower eight delicacies". The eight bowls were one of the lower eight delicacies of the Manchu-Han Banquet.
The eight big bowls are very popular among the people. "A Study on the Sacrifice of the Manchu Bannermen" records: Five tripods and eight bowls are used for banquets, commonly known as the eight big bowls. They are used for New Years, festivals, celebrations, welcomes, farewells, and marriages to wealthy families. The banquet was served in eight large bowls, which at that time concentrated all cooking techniques such as grilling, stewing, sauce, roasting, stewing, stir-frying, steaming, and frying.
“Eight bowls of running water, roasted pork made of iron.” In traditional folk, the “eight bowls” are spread all over the country, and the “eight bowls” of Zhangfang Village in Yichun are also unique. The so-called "eight bowls" originate from flowing water mats. In traditional weddings, funerals, and even social days, people need to gather together to eat. This is a folk celebration that is as important as singing a big opera. Due to the insufficient number of scenes, tables, chairs, bowls, chopsticks, etc., I had no choice but to adopt the "eat as you come, eat and leave" approach.
The legendary story about the Eight Bowls
In an ancient village, the people in the village decided to hold a grand banquet to celebrate the harvest. They gathered chefs from the village and prepared eight large bowls of delicious food. These delicacies include braised pork, stewed chicken, fish-flavored shredded pork, stewed tofu, stir-fried vegetables, stewed pumpkin, stewed potatoes and scrambled eggs.
On the night of the banquet, all the men, women and children in the village gathered together to enjoy delicious food. However, when the banquet was about to begin, it suddenly rained heavily, preventing many villagers from coming to participate. At this time, a young man in the village volunteered and decided to brave the rain to invite the villagers who were unable to attend the banquet.
The young man carried an umbrella and ran throughout the village one by one, distributing eight bowls of delicious food to the villagers who were unable to attend the banquet. His kind deed touched everyone and made the villagers feel the power of unity and friendship. In order to commemorate this young man and his good deeds, the villagers called these eight bowls of delicacies "Eight Bowls".
