Wuxi ancient towns include Huishan Ancient Town, Dangkou Ancient Town and Jinxi Ancient Town.
1. Huishan Ancient Town is characterized by the dense distribution of ancient ancestral halls. It is considered to be the only existing project in Wuxi that has the qualifications to apply for world cultural heritage.
Ancestral halls are mainly concentrated along the Longtou River and Zhijie Street. Among them, Yang Oufang Ancestral Hall is particularly special, incorporating Western architectural style.
The delicacies of the ancient town are also not to be missed. Huishan tofu pudding is often served in queues; and Yiqinyuan Xiaolongbao, which has been featured on "A Bite of China", is also available.
Collecting the essence of humanities and the beauty of mountains and rivers, it has been the spiritual home and travel destination of local people for thousands of years.
2. Dangkou Ancient Town is located at the junction of Wuxi, Suzhou and Changshu. It is a typical Jiangnan water town. Most of the residents in the town are Hua.
The main attractions are on Canghe North Street and Canghe South Street on both sides of the ancient town river. Most of them display the lives and cultural relics of local celebrities.
The stage to the east of the Exhibition Hall of Hua Hengfang’s Life and Deeds often hosts performances, creative markets and other activities.
There are many snacks in the ancient town, and the oily pork is the most famous. Shuijin Douhua, Jinjia Shaobing, and Medicinal Crisps are also recommended.
Try the authentic Wuxi-style crab roe dumplings at Qinyuan Xiaolong, find a riverside teahouse at Huafu Mingzao, and drink tea while looking at the scenery. It is very comfortable.
3. Jinxi Ancient Town is located on the bank of Dianshan Lake in the southern suburbs of Kunshan. It is a Jiangnan water town with a history of thousands of years.
History, culture, and natural landscapes are all here.
The folk collections in the ancient town include the Ancient Bricks and Tiles Museum, the Purple Clay Museum, the Teapot Museum, and the Cultural Revolution Collection Exhibition Hall for tourists to reminisce about the history.
Snacks on the old street include Jinxi’s specialty stocking cakes, Chimelong moon cakes, crabapple cakes, etc., as well as Jiangnan specialty delicacies such as gordon cake, pork and hooves.
The town is densely covered with lakes and crisscrossed by rivers and alleys, forming a typical Jiangnan water town style of connected rivers and lakes, swamps surrounding the town, streets and lanes attached to the water, and bridges and lanes connected.
