Sweet-scented osmanthus crisp candy is a famous specialty pastry in Xuzhou, which has a history of thousands of years. My hometown Xuzhou's sweet-scented osmanthus candy packaging is quite exquisite. It is a traditional paper packaging, which is divided into two layers, the outer layer is ordinary paper with red letters on a white background and the inner layer is moisture-proof wax paper packaging. Crispy candy is packed into a rectangle with edges and corners and the same size.
Sweet-scented osmanthus crisp candy is not only beautifully packaged, but also exquisitely made internally. It is mainly made of sesame, refined powder, honey, maltose, white sugar, osmanthus and so on through more than ten traditional processes such as boiling sugar, beating sugar and baking. It tastes sweet and delicious, and can be eaten directly or taken with boiled water. Because of its rich aroma, nutrition and moisture, it has the effects of moistening lung, strengthening stomach and relieving cough, and is a very popular dessert.
I like sweet-scented osmanthus crisp candy not only because it is sweet and delicious, but also because it has a beautiful legend.
According to legend, during the Northern Song Dynasty, Su Dongpo was appointed as the magistrate of Xuzhou, and the Yellow River burst. The flood has reached the gate of Xuzhou and is about to overflow the city wall. It is said that only a beautiful young woman jumps into the Yellow River will the flood recede. When Su Dongpo's thirteen-year-old daughter Su Gu heard the news, she burned incense and prayed: "As long as she can save Xuzhou people, she is willing to lay down her life to fight floods." After praying, she jumped into the water from the wall, and the flood receded slowly, and Xuzhou City was saved.
In order to commemorate Sugu, people rushed to buy sweet-scented osmanthus candy to worship Sugu. The "crisp" person is also "Su". Is it just a coincidence in name? Look at the shape of shortbread. How similar is the length, width and height of each crisp candy to the ancient city wall brick!
