Egypt: What is it like to take a Nile cruise?

When I was a child and watched the movie "Tragedy on the Nile", I was deeply impressed by the luxury cruise ship in the movie. During this trip to Egypt, we were also lucky enough to board the Nile River cruise ship. We experienced a three-day journey and personally experienced the luxury cruise ship in the movie.

Life.

Of course our journey was not as thrilling as in the movie, everything went smoothly.

The scenery along the way, the sunset and afternoon tea on the Nile, the water trade with Egyptian characteristics, and the whole process of the boat passing through the Esna Locks all left a deep impression on me.

First let’s talk about the route of this cruise.

The Nile River flows through Egypt from south to north, dividing ancient Egypt into upper and lower parts, each belonging to two different dynasties. It was not until 3100 BC that Pharaoh Menes, the founding pharaoh of Egypt's first dynasty, unified upper and lower Egypt.

Upper Egypt refers to the area south of Luxor, and to the north of Luxor is Lower Egypt.

Our cruise this time took us to Upper Egypt, that is, we boarded the ship from Aswan and disembarked at Luxor.

This is the cruise ship on this trip, with three floors, a deck and a swimming pool on the top. It is much larger than the one in the movie, but much smaller than the cruise ships in the ocean, with only about a few dozen guest rooms.

The room was not fully booked for this trip, so I estimate there were only about forty or fifty people staying there.

The name of the cruise ship is "Grand Princess". Every time it reaches a scenic spot, the ship will stop for everyone to go ashore for excursions. It has been sailing when we slept at night.

This is the lobby of the cruise ship. There is a boutique shop, reception desk and waiters next to the lobby. The cruise ship is small but fully equipped, including bars, conference rooms, billiards rooms, restaurants, swimming pools and performance halls.

Luxurious Staircase and Cafeteria This is the room we stayed in, a standard twin room, which is larger than the Star Cruises Star Twin I took last time, and every room has a river view.

On the first day, the cruise ship docked at Aswan Marina. This is the view from our room.

The night view of the same place before sunrise and after sunrise the next morning. During the three-day trip, we ate the buffet on the boat. The buffet was quite rich in variety, mainly Western food, but also a small number of Egyptian specialties, and a lot of fruits.

This is the view of the Nile River before sunrise from the swimming pool on the top floor of the fourth floor. The feeling of taking a river cruise is completely different from that of a sea cruise.

The flow of the Nile River is slow and the boat is very stable. It is almost impossible to notice the boat moving. However, if a cruise ship in the sea encounters strong winds and waves, it will be very swaying and people will feel dizzy.

Secondly, river cruises have fewer passengers, so they won’t feel crowded, and the comfort level is much higher than that of sea cruises.

After sunrise, the day's activity schedule will be announced at the front desk every day. When you want to disembark for a tour, come here to gather and return before the specified time.

Tea time is around four o'clock every afternoon. You can go to the top deck to drink tea and eat desserts. This time is the most relaxing and comfortable.

At this time, you can also watch the unique water trade of the Nile River. The vendors drove small boats to catch up with the cruise ship. They first hooked up to our boat, and then took out the goods and shouted for everyone to buy.

They kept displaying the patterns to see if any customers liked them. If anyone was interested, they would directly throw the goods onto the four-story deck, and the items would land on the ground without hesitation. Their skillful movements were admirable.

Once someone on the deck replied, and then the tablecloth was thrown up. Later, the person looked dissatisfied and threw it down again.

It’s really interesting to bargain constantly across a space of more than ten meters high!

In addition to trading on the water, watching the sunset on the deck is also unforgettable.
