On September 15, 2017, Ele.me’s parent company, Lazars Group, issued an internal notice announcing that after the merger of Ele.me and Baidu Waimai on August 24, they would integrate the resources of the dual centers in Shanghai and Beijing. On the premise of maintaining the independent operation of Baidu's takeaway brand and business, some organizational structures of the group will be adjusted. According to the notice, Wei Hai, the former vice president of Ele.me, will be appointed as the new CEO of Baidu Food Delivery, responsible for Baidu Food Delivery business and the implementation of dual-brand strategy. Gong Zhenbing, the former CEO of Baidu Waimai, serves as the chairman of Baidu Waimai, responsible for the strategic layout and key business sorting out of the group and Baidu Waimai.
On August 28, 2015, the online food ordering platform "Ele.me" announced the completion of a US$630 million Series F financing. This round of financing was led by CITIC Industrial Fund and Hualian Holdings, with participation from new investors such as Chinese Cultural Industry Fund and Gopher Asset, as well as original investors such as Tencent, JD.com, and Sequoia Capital. China Renaissance Capital served as the exclusive financial advisor for this round of financing. After financing, Ele.me’s valuation exceeded US$3 billion.
In April 2016, Ele.me formally reached a strategic cooperation agreement with Alibaba and Ant Financial, and received an investment of US$1.25 billion, once again setting a new record for the highest single financing amount for a global food delivery platform.
