Yang Gong Taishi is the god who is in charge of exorcising evil spirits in Puxian area. Some time ago, some netizens suggested that Yang Gong Taishi, who has many temples in Puxian area, be studied. Today, I checked the information and sent it to you, so you can discuss it together.
During the Ming Dynasty, the plague was rampant along the southeast coast of Fujian. Villagers in Dingzhuang, Huangshi went to Wutai Mountain in Shanxi Province to invite Yang Jiawulang, the great god of plague patrol, to come to this town to suppress evil spirits. Fengshan Palace in Dingzhuang was the earliest temple dedicated to Yang Gong's Taishi, and most of the temples dedicated to Yang Gong's Taishi in Puxian area were separated from this palace, so Fengshan Palace in Huangshi was called fengshan temple.
Wu Lang of Yang family, also known as Wu Lang in the story of Yang Jiajiang in the Northern Song Dynasty, was named Yan De, also known as Yan Gui, and the monk was named Fa Hui, ranking fifth, so he was called Wu Lang, a native of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, and his father succeeded him. This is a common saying in storytelling and Yang Jiajiang Romance. According to the Records of the History of Song Dynasty, Yang Ye did have seven sons, but the names of the seven dragons and eight tigers in the ballad are inconsistent, and only two of them are recorded, Yan Yu and Yan Zhao, and finally Yan Zhao gave birth to Wen Guang. The History of the Song Dynasty only records the achievements of three generations of the Yang family, Yang Ye, Yang Yanzhao and Yang Wenguang, but not the legendary Yang Zongbao and Mu Guiying. Therefore, Yang Jiajiang's story has a lot of fiction, which can only be said to express people's attitude of praising heroes and yearning for a better life.
In fact, there is a custom of offering sacrifices to Yang Gong in Puxian area for a long time, which is one of the most influential beliefs in the Yangtze River valley and southern provinces since the Song Dynasty. Because the myth and legend of Yang Gong, a believer, was passed on to the society by mouth, it was widely spread, and because of the need of production and life in this area, the origins and signs of this character were constantly added on the basis of the legend, which gave birth to many versions of "Yang Gong" with different names and different life experiences.
In various versions of Yang Gong, General Yang Si, the king of Zhenjiang, is famous, including Yang La 'er in Hubei, Yang Xingmi, a general in the late Tang Dynasty, Yang Zaixing, Yang Jingyi in the early Tang Dynasty, the fourth son of Yang Ye in Yang Jiajiang, and Uncle Yang in the Hakka area in western Fujian. In Puxian area, the belief in "Yang Gong" is Yang Wulang, commonly known as Yang Gong Taishi, and it is also said that there is "Taishi" in the belief of "Five Emperors".
Yang Wulang did not appear in Puxian area, and he fought, which can be said to have no influence, but why did he become a famous god in Puxian area? We understand that Yang Gong, the early water god, was very popular in Puxian area. Because of the rise of Mazu water god, Yang Gong's status as a water god was replaced, and its original Yang Gong God in the village community had no refuge, so we found a suitable birth and name for unknown Yang Gong-Yang Wulang, so that Yang Gong, who lost his status as a water god, was justified and found a place to return to, although this is only a speculation and needs to be confirmed in another day.
Wutai Leshan in Nan 'an: a pilgrimage to Zhaohui ancestral temple in Quanjun.
Yang Gong, the water god, was very wronged when he was replaced by Mazu. In fact, there is a person who is even more wronged. The ancestral temple of this sea god is located in Zhaohui ancestral temple in Leshan Spring County, Wutai, Xiangyang, northeast of Nan 'an, Quanzhou, in a mountain village next to Longhua. As a sea god, Tongyuan Wang prayed for the wind, which can be traced back to Yuanyou in the Northern Song Dynasty. There were also prayers in Zhaohui Temple in Jiuri Mountain, Quanzhou, and Zheng He once offered sacrifices to Tongyuan Wang when he went to the Western Seas. In the Yuan Dynasty, the Mongols occupied China, and they made Mazu the goddess of the sea, and gradually the position of the sea god was replaced by Mazu. Now there are palaces and temples in Longhua that believe in Marshal Zhu Gong, and all of them worship Tongyuan King.
