Gatangpa Festival is a traditional festival of Hani people for a long time, but there was no unified festival in the past. It is said that the Gatumba Festival in ancient times lasted for 15 days, with ancestor worship and banquets as its main contents. During the 15 days of the festival, it is very expensive to hold a banquet and drink alcohol every day. When the 14th generation ancestors of Hani people respected Tang Pan, the time for the festival was set at 4 days, and it was stipulated that the celebration would begin on the first day of October and end on the day of the Dragon. The content of festival activities keeps the previous ancestor worship and banquets, and increases the content of entertainment activities. When the festival comes, people will cook rice wine, stir-fry rice cakes, kill pigs and chickens, and prepare rice, rice wine, meat and tea to offer sacrifices and prayers in front of Apepolo, the ancestral shrine. Every household should hold a banquet to invite relatives and friends to drink with each other and give each other gifts to contact their feelings. Villages and villages set up swing racks and gyro fields, and carried out swing and gyro-playing activities. Young men and women dressed in new clothes invited each other to the mountains to pick wild fruits, pick wild flowers, sing songs and enjoy themselves. Men who like hunting, then group up in groups of three or five to hunt birds in the mountains or hunt in the mountains.
In p>1987, the Standing Committee of the State People's Congress designated Gatangpa Festival as the annual festival of the Hani people, and the festival time was unified from January 2 to 4 on the Gregorian calendar. Festival activities are organized by the township government or village office, and the content is mainly cultural and sports activities. During the festival, young men and women will perform traditional bamboo tube dances, long bamboo pole dances and various entertainment programs showing Hani customs. Carry out swings, gyroscopes, crossbows and other competitions and spring outing activities. Sing songs on the mountain and have fun. Many activities with feudal superstition in the past have been replaced by healthy and beneficial cultural and sports activities.
