Still life photography, as opposed to portrait photography and scenery photography, takes inanimate objects (this inanimate concept is relative, such as fish and shrimps caught from the sea, picked fruits and vegetables, etc.) and artificial objects that can be freely moved or combined. Mostly take industrial or handmade products, natural inanimate objects and so on as the shooting theme. On the basis of truly reflecting the inherent characteristics of the subject, through creative conception, combined with photographic means such as composition, light, tone and color, the subject is represented as a photographic work with artistic beauty. This is called still life photography. Still life photography has a vast world in material selection. After selecting good materials, we can deal with these objects at will, because the objects are inanimate and can be moved at the mercy of many angles to achieve the creative intention. Still life photography has two advantages: first, it is a deepening process of further understanding artistic vision. When some ordinary objects are taken into fascinating photos, it is actually a process of studying and observing these objects in depth. Secondly, shooting still life can gain more practical photography knowledge. For photographers, the difficulty of still life photography lies in its unique picture composition. When the subject is arranged, we must choose the shooting angle and be creative in using light, and then apply the practical photography knowledge and basic principles learned from still life photography to daily photography. Unlike the routine, you don't need to find a studio or an ideal place for still life photography. You can find a simple space at home to start your photography work, such as a table beside the bed with a simple background and some lamps.
Still life photography is very different from landscape photography and figure photography. Scenery and figures usually set a theme, either a mountain or a model, and they can change a lot, and the creative space is ready for you. However, still life photography is different, they change very little, and all situations are controlled by the photographer, including the theme. You need to rack your brains to think of interesting and novel ways to creatively capture their characteristics.
