Songkhla (Thai: ?, English: Changwat Songkhla) is a province in southern Thailand.
In Malay, Songkhla is called "Singgora".
It is located at the mouth of Songkhla Lake on the east coast of the central and narrow Malay Peninsula.
An ancient city built by the Malays.
Historically, it was an important trade port between China and Thailand and between China and Malaya.
The main distribution center for rubber and tin, it is also an export port for rubber, copra, tin, bird's nest, etc.
There are several ice plants.
Tin was mined nearby.
There is a branch line connected to the Southern Thailand Railway.
The main highway runs parallel to the railway.
The city has Teachers College, Southern Institute of Technology, King Songkhla VI Middle School and Songkhla Museum, Songkhla Weekend Pedestrian Street, Songkhla Coastal Breeding Research Center, etc. The Prince of Songkhla University is located in Hat Yai, the largest city in Songkhla Province.
There are Buddhist pagodas, Sanbaogong Temple and other scenic spots on Dongguan Mountain in the suburbs.
Songkhla Lake is rich in fishery products. The island in the lake is named Koh Yo. Both ends of the island are connected to the bridge across Songkhla Lake - the longest bridge in Thailand.
Songkhla Beach is a famous scenic spot with a bathing beach.
The tourism industry is developed, and because of the pleasant environment, many Europeans and Americans come here for vacation and work.
