Introduction: If a worker wants to do his job well, he must first sharpen his tools.
Photographing delicious food with simple equipment also requires equipment.
Here are a few essential shooting tools and techniques. Let me summarize them for you: 1. Camera selection: For handheld shooting, a lightweight and convenient mirrorless camera is the first choice, and one with anti-shake function is the best.
It just so happened that Sony launched the a7II, a full-frame mirrorless camera with five-axis anti-shake, and we used it to shoot this time.
Even if you don’t have a mirrorless camera or a7II, don’t worry.
A SLR and a large aperture lens can also meet your shooting needs.
What? You don’t have a large-aperture lens? I can’t help you? 2. Lens selection If you want to take pictures of food in a unique way, close-ups and sufficient background blur are very important.
These two elements should at least satisfy the same.
For close-ups, shooting close to the food or using a long focal length lens can solve the problem.
As for background blur, the easiest way is to use a larger aperture lens.
We used a 100mm F2.8 macro lens here, which should be the best choice for food photography.
3. Other accessories Maybe you think that professional food movies require tall accessories and complex lighting.
It’s actually not that troublesome and can be done using natural light and a few mirrors.
The picture below is the photographer’s actual working scene. Do you think it is simple? The effect is like this. It doesn’t look that complicated.
4. Photography suggestions If your photos are not good enough, it must be that you are not close enough to your food.
For food photography, stay close to your subject.
Even if your lens has a short focal length and a small aperture, you can still get good shooting results.
If you don’t believe it, try it.
Although you don’t need fancy shooting accessories, fill light is very important.
With light, photos have texture.
Please use simple lighting tools such as mirrors and reflectors to illuminate your food.
Please also pay attention to the camera's exposure compensation when shooting. Slightly overexposed will make your food look more attractive.
Pay attention to the safe shutter speed. The a7II’s excellent anti-shake capability can provide 4.5 stops of anti-shake compensation.
For a 100mm macro lens, the safety shutter speed can be reduced to about 1/10 (advertisement here).
So handheld shooting is basically no problem.
