In my opinion, the so-called gourmet desert refers to a city where the development of catering culture is slow, the quality of food is poor, the variety of food is single, and even the eating habits are outdated and backward, which makes people unable to enjoy delicious food.
I think the food culture in China is profound, and each city has different food culture and unique food. However, if I have to choose a gourmet desert city in my mind, it is my birthplace-Urumqi.
Urumqi, located in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, is a multi-ethnic city and the political, economic and cultural center of Xinjiang. However, although Urumqi has many food cultures, in my opinion, it is a food desert city.
First of all, the food culture in Urumqi is relatively simple, with barbecue, pasta and dairy products as the main products. Barbecue is one of the local specialties, but its taste is different from other regions due to different feeding and processing methods. Pasta is mainly Lamian Noodles and Hele, although delicious, but the variety is single and the quality is uneven. In terms of dairy products, milk tea and yogurt are the main products, but the taste is not satisfactory because the production process is not fine enough.
Secondly, the development of catering industry in Urumqi is relatively backward, so it is difficult to find high-quality restaurants and food recommendations. In the local area, many restaurants are not well trained and managed, which leads to heavy taste, greasy taste, high concentration of monosodium glutamate, lack of innovation and personalization, and people can't enjoy real food.
Finally, the eating habits in Urumqi are old and backward, and they are not used to some novel foods. For example, I once tried a delicious fish with pickled vegetables in a restaurant, but many locals didn't like the taste, thinking it was too sour and spicy. They were used to the local barbecue and pasta. Because Urumqi's eating habits were old and backward, they were not used to some novel foods, which also made the local catering industry lack innovation and personalization. Therefore, it is difficult to find novel and unique food and high-quality restaurants.
Of course, I'm not saying that Urumqi has no good food at all. For example, there is a local delicacy called "tendon of sheep's feet", which is made from the tendon in mutton. It tastes tough and delicious. There are also local foods such as brown sugar cakes, baked buns and saute spicy chicken, which are also memorable. But generally speaking, compared with other cities, there is still much room for improvement in the level of food in Urumqi.
In fact, in recent years, with the rise of tourism in Xinjiang and the rapid economic development, the food culture in Urumqi is also rising gradually. More and more restaurants begin to pay attention to the quality of dishes and service, and introduce novel and unique food, and gradually become local food representatives.
Therefore, I believe that the food culture in Urumqi will continue to develop and progress, and more delicious food will emerge in the future, so that people can taste more delicious food in this city.
