Zhihu What is it like to be at National Chengchi University?
As a mainland student, when it comes to the experience of NCTU, it is difficult to separate it from the experience of Taiwan, Taipei, and cross-strait relations. At present, talent exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are relatively one-way. That is to say, it is easy for Taiwanese talents to go to the mainland, but it is difficult for mainland talents to come to Taiwan. Coming to Taiwan as a mainland student is one of the few ways that can allow people to stay for a longer period of time. For many people, the study experience at National Chengchi University is equivalent to the life experience in Taiwan. It is difficult to distinguish between many experiences provided by Taiwan and National Chengchi University.

However, since the question is about school experience, appropriate separation is still needed. I will try my best to return those from Taiwan to Taiwan and those from Zhengda University to Zhengda University. It would be somewhat unfair to blame the National Chengchi University for some of the common problems in Taiwanese society. I mainly answered about four aspects: food, housing, study, and environment. Finally, I briefly answered about some experiences outside the National Chengchi University campus.

ㄧ, Zhengda Food? Zhengda has no food?

National Chengchi University is recognized as a "food desert" by Taiwanese college students, but it's actually not that bad. You have to say there are many, but it can never be compared with the prosperous and busy cities like Gongguan and Shilin. But if you want to say that it is small, it is basically complete with what you want. We have set meals, mixed dishes, lunch boxes, refreshments, hot pot, international cuisine, Taiwanese specialties, porridge, noodles and rice. The quality is definitely not that of gourmet food, but it doesn't mean it's unpalatable. The price is relatively moderate, a little bit expensive compared to the prices around universities in mainland China.

There may be several reasons why political corruption is a problem. First of all, there is no "official" cafeteria at National Chengchi University, nor is there a fixed, cheap, clearly defined dining place that people are accustomed to in mainland universities. Frequent eating out can quickly exhaust options. Just like if people leave the cafeteria in mainland China and have a meal of dark dishes, they will be somewhat bored. Secondly, the positioning of the surrounding restaurants seems to be fine if you just want to have a casual meal. The standard of this canteen is enough. If you want to have a good meal, but it is not of high quality, you have to go to the city. When you want to eat something casually and find that there are queues at every restaurant, your appetite is basically gone. Third, some students are spoiled, and it is quite funny to compare them with urban standards. What kind of crowds are there in Gongguan and Shilin? What consumption? I came to National Chengchi University as a student. Overcoming the difficulties, eating is not a problem. Why do I have to eat the standards of a bustling city every day? If you want to eat well, just eat there every now and then. The above reasons, coupled with the atmosphere created by everyone's mutual infection, gave rise to the name of food desert.

2. Accommodation at Chengdu University

When it comes to living in a dormitory, you can live in a good dormitory or a poor dormitory. Depending on your mood and pocket, you can also find a room by yourself.

In terms of experience, it is a gamble of character. The price you pay can only affect the probability but cannot provide a guarantee. If you are lucky, the neighbors are friendly, the public space is clean, take care of yourself in single rooms, and have roommates in double or quadruple rooms, it will be a comfortable experience. This is the same everywhere. But luck is usually not that good. While staying in the dormitory, you can also observe how some National Cheng Kung University students, or Taiwanese students, live and study behind the scenes. The food in the refrigerator will be dried away, and the clothes hanging to dry will also be dried away. Garbage will be thrown away if it is sorted. The public space is not tidied up, and the neighbors are not open to the outside and playing games. The most exaggerated thing is that I have heard that there is poop in the bathroom and washing machine. The latter may be a personal grudge, but the former has no excuse. Naturally, there are only a few people who caused this, but think about it, this is a top school in Taiwan. Did we encounter such exaggerated things when we were studying in top schools in mainland China? Wherever you can see it, you are gentle, courteous and accommodating, but where you can't see it, tragedies of fairness and justice still happen. When coupled with poor construction quality, the effect is amplified. A strong boy could punch through the door panel of an old dormitory. Even if you have a shiny new dormitory, you might wonder if the wall is transparent? There are different opinions on the reasons. Some say that the soil is unstable and necessitated the use of this material, some say that it is a fire-fighting material, and some say that there was corruption when building the dormitory, but it has nothing to do with "experience".
