foreword
After writing the last word of Dashiyuan, I breathed a long sigh of relief. Although the writing is very smooth, I always think I haven't enjoyed it. Anyway, I fulfilled my promise to myself and showed my readers the story of Dashiyuan Street and the people who struggled for their lives there. When I tell the complex stories of three generations in this old street, I hope they will have a good idea.
Frankly speaking, since I conceived this work, I have asked myself more than once, will anyone be interested in ordinary people and their fate? Now people's eyes are focused on the so-called "stars" and "local tyrants". Look at the current screen and online novels. Many people like to watch fantasy, gun battles, palace fights, power and ambiguity. What they appreciate and pursue is a life of getting rich overnight without spending a lot of money. They always like to despise the "poor" with contempt and ridicule. So, is it inappropriate to write big college?
However, my creative impulse and passion have not disappeared. I was born and raised in Dashiyuan and left after 29 years of marriage. What I saw, heard, met and felt were the fate and experiences of these ordinary people, engraved in my mind and melted into my blood. I often chat with them in small hotels, listen to their boasting and watch them quarrel. Their words are rough but not vicious, and their struggle with fate never stops. For decades, some residents made a living by repairing shoes. Some people can fill their machines with two steamed buns at work, trying to "get rid of poverty" and ignorance of drugs, as well as being swollen and obese because they married their daughter-in-law. The fate of "little people" is presented to me like a movie, and my feelings have a lot in common with them. As a novelist, if I don't write something for them, my soul will be restless, as if I owe them something. I hope to arouse readers' kindness to others and the world and warm their own and others' hearts through novels, so as to pin my hopes on them.
Of course, the realistic era is a great era after all, and it is an era that inspires people to forge ahead and fight bravely. Rolling waves will always bring them together, and they should not and will not sink into fate. Cheng Cheng and Ding Dawei in the novel pinned their hopes and mine.
The above is the origin of this book. I dare not expect readers to like it. I even have to face the reality that those "stars" and "local tyrants" who spend a lot of money can always attract people's attention. I have nothing to say except regret. However, what is certain is that if everything in our society is occupied by "stars" and "local tyrants", it will be fantasy, ambiguity, gun battles, palace fights and so on. Caring for the bottom people means caring for the future of the country, and I have no regrets.
Finally, tell the neighbors of Dashiyuan Street that the characters and plots in the novel are purely fictional, so don't sit in the right place. My original intention is not to let people guess that I am writing about someone and a family, but the development and changes here over the past decades, as well as the record of ordinary people's lives and thinking about their fate, which have pinned my blessings and hopes on you.
Here, I am especially grateful to Jiangxi Culture and Art Fund Management Center. It can be said that without their project funding, there would be no novel. On the occasion of the publication of this book, I would like to express my deep respect and gratitude to them!
The novel "Dashiyuan Street" was published by Tianjin Baihua Literature and Art Publishing House at the end of September, so please pay attention.
