Hegong University refers to Hebei University of Technology, whose predecessor was Beiyang Technical School established in 1903. It is the earliest institution of higher learning in China to train industrial talents, and founded the earliest university-run factory in China. 1929 was renamed Hebei Institute of Technology, and 1995 was renamed Hebei University of Technology.

School 1996 ranks among the first batch of "2 1 1 Project" key construction universities in China; 20 14 was jointly built by Hebei Province, Tianjin City and the Ministry of Education; 20 17 was selected as a "double first-class" construction university in China. In recent years, materials science, chemistry and engineering have respectively entered the top of ESI global rankings 1%. In 2020, it was named "National Civilized Campus".

Hebei University of Technology has more than 2,900 faculty members, including 1.600 full-time teachers. In recent years, the school has introduced and trained 20 national talents, including "Changjiang Scholar", "National Outstanding Youth Fund" winner and national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" leading talents in scientific and technological innovation.

More than 320 people have the titles of national famous teachers in teaching, national candidates for the "100 million talents project in the new century" and winners of special allowances from the State Council.
