Ingredients: ten hawthorns and appropriate amount of sugar.
Steps:
1. Wash and dry the hawthorn.
2. Use a knife to draw a circle across the middle of the hawthorn, preferably to touch the middle core.
3. Turn the hawthorn away and squeeze it gently to remove the core easily.
4. Use a knife to cut off both ends. Don't make the hole too big so that the string will become too loose on the sign.
5. String the processed hawthorns on wooden skewers or disposable chopsticks. I used a stir stick.
6. Find a frying pan and add sugar and water. The ratio is about 2:1 sugar to water. Turn on low heat.
7. While boiling the sugar, skewer the remaining ones.
8. When the syrup is cooked until it becomes slightly yellow and sticky, you can turn off the heat.
9. Roll the hawthorn skewers quickly in the pot a few times. Use a spatula instead of your hands.
10. Don’t roll for too long. Roll for 3-4 seconds before the pot is ready. Use a spoon to make up for the lack of sugar. If you want a silky effect, use a spoon to scoop up the syrup and quickly spread it sideways. Just move between rows.
