What are the modes of transportation in Japan?

There are six main modes of transportation in Japan: Railways (national railways and private railways). Japan’s railway system includes JR and local private railways (private railways), which add up to hundreds of lines.

If it is a long-distance journey across regions, JR railways are mostly used; if activities are in a single or adjacent area, private railways are more often chosen.

Peak hours are 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

2. Shinkansen Shinkansen is the main means of transportation between large areas in Japan, similar to my country's high-speed rail.

Since it was opened to traffic in 1964, it currently has 7 main lines and 2 mini lines. The main lines operate at a speed of 260 to 320 kilometers per hour, while the mini lines operate at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour.

3. Subway (ちかてつ) The important means of transportation in the metropolitan area is absolutely indispensable.

In Tokyo, there are 9 lines operated by TOKYO METRO (Marunouchi Line, Tozai Line, Namboku Line, Yurakucho Line, Chiyoda Line, Hanzomon Line, Hibiya Line, Ginza Line, Fukutoshin Line)

, and four lines of the Toei Line (route operated by Tokyo Metropolitan Government) (Mita Line, Shinjuku Line, Asakusa Line, Oedo Line), running alternately with private railways.

In addition, Osaka, Kobe, Nagoya, Yokohama, Kyoto, Sapporo, Sendai, and Fukuoka also have subways.

4. Highway Bus Highway Bus is a bus that mainly runs on highways. It is also called Highway Bus, long-distance bus, and night bus (when driving at night).

Express buses have many routes connecting cities and between cities and tourist attractions. Their specialty is that compared with airplanes and railways, freight is cheaper.

5. Taxi Taking a taxi in Japan is not cheap, so try to travel by public transportation.

According to the size of the vehicle, it is divided into large, medium and small, and the number of passengers varies.

The starting price (basic fare within two kilometers) varies from place to place. From 11 pm to 5 am the next day, a nighttime bonus system is adopted, and the fare is increased by 30%.

When traveling on the expressway, additional tolls will also apply.

6. If you want to drive in Japan, please obtain an international driver's license in your own country before coming to Japan, or replace your own country's driver's license with a Japanese driver's license.
