Gaozhou Zongzhi

The original name of "Zongzi Zhi" is "Guzhong Zhi". "Zongzi" is the most widely spread folk food on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (Duanyang Festival). The legends about zongzi in history all revolve around commemorating the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. But there was also a story about "Zongzhi wrapped in rice dumplings" spread in Gaozhou, which has a strong local flavor in Gaozhou.

It is said that during the Jin Dynasty, two immortals came from afar and happened to set foot on the border of Gaozhou. They were exhausted and wanted to find a good place to rest for a while before going on their way. They have all heard that there are two places with charming scenery in Gaozhou. One is the "Mountain Temple" in Dongshan Mountain, and the other is "Shiniugang" in Nanshan Mountain. They want to go to both places, but they are not familiar with the road in life and don't know where to go. How far. One of the immortals was "Tieguai Li". He saw him building a pergola in front of his forehead with his hands. Looking left and right, he saw rocks all over the back mountain. He guessed that "Shiniugang" must be right in front of him. In addition, the immortal was "Uncle Cao Guo", and he insisted on going to Dongshan, so the two of them argued with each other in the east and south, and no one could agree on the same opinion. At this moment, I vaguely saw a shepherd boy riding a cow, singing a folk song: "In May, I drove the cows across the mountain. I saw two people walking towards the mountain. I only heard the chattering mountain people. One was going east and the other was going south. "The two immortals were surprised and happy after hearing this, so they rushed to the shepherd boy to inquire about the place. The shepherd boy smiled knowingly and said: "Well, one is looking for the 'Mountain Temple' and the other is looking for the 'Shiniugang'. What you all said makes sense. I have a way to give you some advice. As long as you can Throw any food you bring at the cow's head and you will know." The two immortals each took out a ball of cooked rice wrapped in cloth, "Sand! Sand!" They hit it twice. Cow head, this cow has two rice balls hanging on its horns, one on the left and one on the right. At this time, the shepherd boy sang another song: "Hang the cow's head on the rice balls. If you want to find the cow, you are not far away from the horizon. In front of you is the big stone cow." As soon as the song ended, the shepherd boy took two rice balls from the horns of the cow and ran away. It disappeared without a trace, and only the cow stood there motionless, instantly returning to its original form as a "stone cow". The two immortals suddenly realized that this was "Shiniugang".

Besides, the shepherd boy ran home in a hurry, smashed two rice balls immediately, put them together with the few handfuls of rice left at home, and cooked them in a wok. When he took off the pot, the pot was full of rice. He was so happy that he had stacked a lot more rice balls. He couldn't bear to take a bite of the fragrant stuff and immediately took it to relieve the hungry people in the village. Soon after people learned about this, they called "Shiniugang" "Xianren Guzhongdi" (the colloquial meaning of "guessing"), and called the rice balls "Guzhong Zhi". This kind of "Zhen" It has been passed down from generation to generation. Why was the "Guzhong Zhi" later called "Zongzong Zhi"? In fact, the words "古" and "粽" are homophonic, and because the rice dumplings are made by wrapping them, "粽粺" is its correct name.
