“Food in Sichuan, taste in Leshan”.
This time I went to Leshan, Sichuan, actually for the food. This city, which is less than an hour away from Chengdu by high-speed rail, is most famous for the Leshan Giant Buddha, but Leshan’s food is definitely the reason why you should go to Leshan.
If you are a foodie and go to Chengdu, you must go to Leshan; if you go to Leshan, you must go to Suji Ancient Town.
That evening, I took a taxi to Suji Ancient Town. The locals pronounce it Suqi. It is said that this is the birthplace of Leshan’s special delicacies, beef and rice cakes.
Suji Ancient Town has a long history of more than 1,400 years. Legend has it that a hermit named Su Mingji lived here and got its name. It is said that Su Dongpo also came here.
However, this ancient town is not actually an ancient town. Except for the two rows of shops along the river, there is not much commercial development. The further you go, you can experience the authentic local life.
Let’s first buy the Suji specialty braised goose recommended by a local friend. The braised goose from Ershitang is hidden in an alley and is difficult to find. It is said that they only sell so much a day, so you won’t be able to buy it if you go there late. arrive.
After buying the special braised goose, I went across the street to eat a rice cake.
There are rice, corn, black rice, different colors. Pour a tablespoon of thick brown sugar on it, it has the taste of childhood and is very nostalgic.
Walking around Suji Ancient Town, time seems to have stood still here.
Suji Ancient Town is actually very low-key because it is located between Leshan and Emei Mountain. For most tourists, they go straight to Mount Emei after seeing the Leshan Giant Buddha, and few come specifically for it.
The most representative feature of Suji Ancient Town is a stone bridge lying across the Emei River, connecting the two sides. This bridge is called Rugong Bridge and is the longest existing 17-hole flat-beam ancient bridge in Leshan City.
In the evening, many local children were playing on the stone beach by the river. What I like most is taking a stroll like this without being in a hurry.
As the sky grows dark, looking at those intricate antennas, I wonder whose childhood memories this scene belongs to?
When the lanterns come on, it’s time to look for food. Now that we have come to Leshan and the birthplace of stilted beef, we must eat stilted beef once.
Threaded beef is one of Leshan’s preferred delicacies and is a national intangible cultural heritage in Leshan.
It’s just that there are so many Tiaojie beef in Leshan, I really don’t know how to choose. The famous ones are Yi Laoba Tiaojie beef, Feng Sanniang Tiaojie beef, Feng Siniang Tiaojie beef, and Yang Laoer Tiaojie beef. .....
In the end, I chose the one that looked the most pleasing to me: Gushi Xiangqiaojiao Beef, which is probably an Internet celebrity store in Guzhen. It is said to have a history of a hundred years. The decoration of the restaurant is nice and antique.
Before eating the stilted beef, drink a bowl of soup, which is very fresh. It is said that when eating cross-legged beef, you must eat it with your feet crossed. Do you know how high you have to cross your feet?
In the beginning, stiletto beef could only be regarded as food for the lower class people, and the conditions of the restaurant were also very simple. There was only a square table and no stools for guests to sit.
However, there is a crossbar under the table for guests to rest their feet. Therefore, this delicacy is also called cross-legged beef because the guests sit and eat it while crossing their feet.
After dinner, we walked along the river. Most of the people living here are locals, very leisurely. Leshan, Sichuan, a city at the intersection of three rivers, felt very good when I first saw it.
