The answer is to cut the meat and feed it to the eagle
Long before the robbery, there was a king of Saboda who cared for all beings and was merciful to the public. On weekdays, he gave alms to the good, and whenever the people needed it, he was always able to observe the people's feelings, listen carefully, and be willing to provide, never sparing.
One day, Emperor Indra's birthday was coming to an end, and he was unhappy.
At this moment, all the gods and dragons saw this and asked, "Heavenly King, why are you so sad?"
Di Shi replied, "My life will be over, and the signs of death have already appeared. Now that Buddhism has declined, I'm afraid there will be no more benevolent bodhisattvas living in the world. I don't know where I will go in the future, so I'm worried! "
The gods and spirits said, "There is a king of Saboda in the world, who practices Bodhisattva extensively on weekdays, keeps the precepts perfectly, has lofty virtue, cares for all beings, and benefits sentient beings with kindness. Soon, you will become a Buddha. If you turn to him, you will be able to cultivate your dharma body and break all doubts! "
In order to test King Saboda, the Indra King ordered the king guarding the border to meet the Bodhisattva Karma: "Today, the king wants to test whether King Saboda is really compassionate, caring for all beings, and even a true practitioner of Bodhisattva. Please turn into a pigeon, and I will turn into an eagle, and I will chase after it and catch up with King Saboda's seat. The pigeon you turned into pretends to be afraid and implores the king for protection. If King Saboda is really kind, he will definitely accept your surrender, so that he can quickly know the truth. "
After that, Vishnu turned into a pigeon, and Indra King turned into an eagle, fiercely following behind the pigeon, in hot pursuit.
The pigeon flew all the way to the throne of Saboda in panic. When it saw King Saboda, it quickly got into the king's armpit and begged King Saboda out of breath to protect his life.
At the same time, the eagle that followed closely came to the front of the temple. When he saw the pigeon that was about to reach him, he was protected by King Saboda under his sleeve, and he said with fierce eyes, "I have been hungry for days, and I have no patience. The pigeon next to you is a delicious food I found. Please return it to me quickly!"
When King Saboda saw this, he slowly replied, "I made a vow to save and protect all sentient beings. Today, I should rescue this pigeon. Can I return it to you and let you kill your life to worship the internal organs for food and clothing? "
Not to be outdone, the eagle retorted, "King, you said you would save all sentient beings, but if you cut off my food today, I can't live either. Don't I belong to all sentient beings? "
King Saboda asked Eagle kindly, "What food do you need to satisfy your hunger? As long as you can spare the pigeon's life, I will try my best to meet your needs! "
"I only eat freshly killed, hot meat!" " The eagle said mercilessly.
King Saboda thought to himself, "It wants to eat hot meat that has just been killed, but it is unreasonable if I kill one to save the other; Since I have made a big vow to save all sentient beings, I should save all sentient beings by myself. "
So King Saboda immediately drew a knife, cut off a piece of his own flesh and gave it to the eagle in exchange for the pigeon's life.
At this time, the eagle spoke again and said, "King, you should treat all beings equally. Although I belong to the animal way, I should not be biased in reason; If you want to exchange this meat for the life of a pigeon, should you use a scale to see if the weight of the two is equal? "
King Saboda asked others to bring a scale, put the pigeon at one end and the cut meat at the other.
A strange thing happened. King Saboda kept cutting off his flesh until it was almost cut off, and it was still not equal to the weight of the pigeon at the other end of the scale.
At this time, King Saboda tried his best, staggered to his feet, and wanted to climb on the scale with his whole body in exchange for pigeons. Suddenly, because of exhaustion, I fell to the ground and lost consciousness; After waking up, King Saboda blamed himself and said, "In order to save all sentient beings, I must stand up bravely. All sentient beings have fallen into the sea of sorrow, and I vowed to save everything with my heart. Why are I so slack and confused?" What I am suffering now is far less than what all beings are suffering in hell. Now I have the merits and blessings of wisdom, meditation, keeping precepts, diligence and other good laws. If I still persist in the suffering of the transient and impermanent body, how can I save all beings in hell who are bored and suffering greatly? "
Despite the pain of being cut off and bleeding, King Saboda kept making big wishes. I want to stand up, fall to the ground again and again, and still make my strength stand up! Down and up, down and up!
When the eagle saw that King Saboda was like this, he asked, "Now you should know that you regret it, right? Put it down! Your life is the most important thing, and the pain lies in yourself. Who will suffer for you? I still advise you to be smart and give me the pigeon obediently, so maybe you can save your life, continue to enjoy your blessings and be the king of a country! "
"I have no regrets! I have lost countless lives since the robbery without beginning, but it is not beneficial to all sentient beings at all. Now I am willing to swear to seek Buddhism and Taoism. " King Saboda replied resolutely.
Suddenly, miraculously, King Saboda got on the scale angrily, and both ends were balanced. King Saboda shouted with joy, "I did it! I did it! The scale is finally balanced! The pigeon was finally rescued! "
At this time, the heavens and the earth shook, the sea raised waves, the dead trees also bloomed beautiful flowers, and it rained perfume and fragrant petals. Seeing this act of giving her life to save her life, the gods and goddesses all chanted, "If you are a true bodhisattva, you will become a Buddha early."
At this time, the eagle restored the original appearance of the Indra King, stood in front of the King and said, "You have done such a valuable thing today. What do you want?"
King Saboda replied, "I sincerely rescue all sentient beings, and I don't want honor or happiness, but I just want to become a Buddha as soon as possible."
"just now, you cut your muscles and hurt your bones, didn't you have any regrets?" "No."
"I only saw your body shaking and you were dying, but you said you didn't regret it. What is the proof of this?"
King Saboda replied, "I have no regrets from beginning to end; If what I say is true, let my body calm down immediately! " As soon as King Saboda finished speaking, his body was restored to its original appearance immediately, and his great compassion for all sentient beings was truly fulfilled.
at this moment, people and heaven are celebrating together, rejoicing and jumping for joy, chanting good deeds, and sighing.
King Saboda is the predecessor of Sakyamuni Buddha's practice of Bodhisattva in the past.
