Becoming a monk

On the eve of the Spring Festival in p>1992, the abbot of Baoguo Temple in Lezhi, Sichuan, told Li Renjie, a permanent resident of the temple, to write three big characters in red paper: "Abbot Liao" and put them on the door of a room on the left side of the sitting room.

Li Jushi thought that the master was going to move to a new house and asked with a smile, "Master, when will you move here?"

"I'm not coming. I'm staying with the new abbot."

"which one is it?"

The master smiled mysteriously: "You will know later."

On the morning of April 16th, 1992, the Buddhist monk Li Renjie recorded that he wanted to send an urgent telegram to Chengdu Wenshuyuan:

"Zhang Miaoshou, the editorial office of the provincial Buddhist Association of Chengdu Wenshuyuan, said," I am critically ill and have important business plans for the temple economy. I hope you and Feng Xuecheng will come soon. Lezhi Baoguo Temple is away from electricity. April 16, 1992. "

at 1 o'clock in the morning, the telegram was sent.

In the afternoon, the Master went to the site where the temple was built to conduct on-the-spot command. His eyes were bright and refreshed, and there was no sign of illness.

However, after the telegram was sent, the lay people in Lezhi County were very nervous. A large group of people found a car and went straight to Baoguo Temple.

at 9 o'clock in the evening, the bus arrived at Baoguo Temple, and everyone entered the master's room. When they saw that the master was peaceful as usual, they bowed their heads. Then the master said, "You are all here, and it is time for Zhang Miaoshou to come."

Then, I solemnly talked about several things, one of which was the future successor of Baoguo Temple.

He said, "Zhang Miaoshou, the successor of the temple, is now a college student in Wenshu College. He was a county magistrate who took the exam before liberation. He is the successor of this temple. His legal name is Chang Zhen, and he immediately put on a shave."

Before going to bed at night, the master asked Pan Jinren, a layman, to draw up another telegram for Zhang Miaoshou and Feng Xuecheng.

"Draw it up tomorrow!"

The master said hastily, "No, no, write now!"

Pan wrote a telegram: "Chengdu Wenshu Institute transferred to Zhang Miaoshou, a Buddhist, and Feng Xuecheng Sulai Temple. Desire. "

all this shows that the master has always been conscious and his heart is not upside down.

the master and Chang Jie each covered themselves with a quilt and slept. Chang Jie slept in it and smelled the strange fragrance all over the house.

at 12 o'clock at night, the master wanted to drink water, and Chang Jie exchanged glucose water, and the master took a sip.

After sleeping for a while, the master asked, "What time is it?" Chang Jie replied, "It's half past three."

After sleeping for a while, the master asked, "What time is it?" Chang Jie replied, "It's almost half past four." The master said, "Almost. I'm not busy, I have to relieve myself. " When I got up, I urinated and wanted to drink water. Chang Jie brought a small porcelain cup of water and said, "It's cold, so I can't drink it." He said, "Yes!" Drink half, leave half, and give the porcelain cup to Chang Jie. Not good! There was a purring of phlegm in the master's throat.

Chang quit panicking, and while holding the master, he shouted, "Teacher Pan, come quickly!"

Teacher Pan came into the room and said, "Go and get Dr. Deng!"

Deng Qiyun ran at once, pressed his temple, felt his pulse and shook his head, saying, "I'm gone!"

At this time, the venerable master's face was as rosy, shiny and lifelike as usual, and he sat firmly by the bed with his hands on his knees. As usual, he sat without help for two days and two nights.

All my life, I only have all sentient beings in my heart, and I have compassion for the world, and I have a predestined relationship with you. In this way, I left peacefully with a strange fragrance.

Pan Jinren changed the telegram sent to Zhang Miaoshou to read: "I died in the early morning, come quickly!" Tell Changshun to send it to the county quickly.

Zhang miaoshou, come quickly! Where are you at this most critical moment?

At this moment, Zhang Miaoshou is in a speeding car!

It turns out that on the afternoon of April 16th, 1992, Zhang Miaoshou got the urgent telegram, and was shocked after reading it.

I thought: How can I be the successor of others? However, if you don't want to, you are afraid of being sorry for his old man's house.

(In 1991, Master Li wrote to Zhang Miaoshou: "I observed that you are quite knowledgeable, and you should take over the inheritance of the forty-second generation of Linjizong." )

At 3 o'clock in the afternoon on the 17th, Zhang Miaoshou walked into Master's hut, feeling very sad. He immediately knelt down in front of his teacher and paid homage.

It's the first time for many laymen in Lezhi County to meet Zhang Miaoshou, whom Master mentioned many times last night-take a closer look:

! This face, this head, this style, how much like your own master! Just wearing a blue khaki tunic suit, neatly buttoned under the neck, he is indeed a virtuous man with noble character, well-cultivated, knowledgeable and instrument-oriented. If you put on a shave, a monk's robe and a cassock, you will look more like our master!

Everyone cast a respectful eye on Master's long-awaited successor, with great hope.

After 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the successor appointed by the departing master will be dressed in a shaved hair, and Master ChangZhen, the new abbot of Baoguo Temple, will be dressed in cassock immediately.

As soon as he became a monk, he immediately became the abbot of a famous temple, which is a rare page in the history of Buddhism in China!

At this time, Master ChangZhen was determined to devote himself to the cause of Buddhism by following the example of his teacher for the rest of his life.

Old Master Chang Zhen gave up his life at 8 am on December 26th, 29.

Explain the Five Commandments

Master ChangZhen explains

Among the Five Commandments, there are four fundamental precepts. Further talk about the significance of the Five Commandments and the problems that should be paid attention to in real life.

No killing

The main purpose of not killing is to cultivate our compassion. The key to this problem should start with the cultivation of children. Everyone has children. As parents, we should consciously instill in children the idea of nursing students and caring for small animals when they are very young. But many families ignore this kind of initial education. Two years ago, a layman came to the temple with her junior high school son. She told me that her son came home from school one day and told her something puzzled. The teacher evaluates the composition in the class. A female classmate's essay topic is "My mother taught me to kill chickens", which tells how her mother taught her to kill chickens. This paper describes in detail a series of her psychological activities: from her initial fear of killing the chicken half to death, how the chicken eager to die broke free from people's hands and ran wildly on the ground with blood all over her body, bleeding and screaming, to her fear and timidity, and then under the guidance of her mother, she gradually learned the "skill" of killing the chicken with one knife, so that she became more and more courageous in killing the chicken. On this basis, he gradually exercised not only to dare to kill chickens, but also to cut off the eel, and was praised by many people, all of whom asked her to kill chickens for him. The son of the lay man couldn't understand why his classmate's mother would teach her daughter to do such a cruel and terrible bloody thing. It is not difficult to see the purity and loveliness of children. They are a blank sheet of paper with great plasticity. The key lies in how parents can be role models for their children and how to guide and educate your children. Why don't you cultivate her love and compassion and cultivate the child's cruelty? I learned to kill chickens, ducks and ricefield eels from an early age. The young mind of the child, the initial precious compassion, gradually disappeared under the guidance of parents, and the compassion gradually disappeared, replaced by cruelty and belligerence. What a sad thing it is! With the growth of age, when personal interests conflict with other people's interests and social interests, killing people for personal interests will be as easy as killing chickens and ducks, and even killing parents as chickens and ducks. This is no joke. Two years ago, there was a news in the newspaper: two couples were professors in a university in Nanjing, but they were killed by their doting biological son. They trained an executioner to send themselves to the grave! Another reporter said in an article that there is a new type of children's toy. When the button is pressed, it will show all kinds of modern weapons to fight the enemy. When the reporter saw a child playing with that kind of toy, he went forward and asked, "Which of these weapons do you like?" The child replied, "I like knives." "The reporter asked again:" Why? Knife is the most primitive weapon? " The child actually replied, "I like knives. It's fun to cut off my head and watch it bleed!" " What a terrible idea. We parents are worth pondering. What kind of people are we cultivating? This is training Hitler and the executioner! Aren't we parents responsible for such a child? ! The bad news of killing is the heaviest, and the bad news of receiving flowers (just blooming, not yet bearing fruit) is disease-ridden and short-lived; What is rewarded is to pay in hell after death.

Second, don't steal

This precept was originally called "don't take", that is, if someone doesn't give it to you, no matter what means you use to get it, it is called stealing, which is the fundamental view of Buddhism on wealth. The cause of stealing will surely be rewarded with poverty; The cause of planting alms is bound to be rewarded by wealth. Nie Yuntai, Zeng Guofan's grandson, studied both Chinese and western cultures. Before liberation, he was the president of the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce. He wrote a book called "The Law of Protecting the Rich". Believing in Buddhism after middle age, he cited a large number of examples from the viewpoint of Buddhism to illustrate how to make a fortune and how to keep it. Everyone in the society wants to make a fortune, but they don't know how to make a fortune and how to make a fortune. How should you seek wealth in a rational way? We are not saying that you can't make a fortune, but the key is how to use your wealth after you make a fortune. If you make a fortune just for personal enjoyment, spend money lavishly, but don't know how to repay the society and do a little good for it, you are creating sin. You use a part of your wealth to do something good for the society, that's in Peifu newspaper. Therefore, whether there is wealth or not is a blessing; Will you use wealth? That's wisdom.

Three Don't commit adultery

For the current social atmosphere, this commandment is quite worthy of attention. As Buddhists, we must understand that lust is the root of life and death. If we want to come up with reincarnation, the key problem is to close the door of life and death, which is an important guarantee for us to live and die, come out of reincarnation and live in pure land in the future.

four don't lie

In the lie warning, great lies are particularly emphasized. There are many people who don't believe in cause and effect and let themselves talk nonsense, saying that they are enlightened and know the past and future. This is a hell of a cause! We must pay attention to avoid being cheated. How do we identify the standard of truth and falsehood? The master in Xuanhua, Wanfo City, USA once said: No matter how lively a person is, it is not difficult to see whether he said that his enlightenment is true or false as long as we look at his attitude in front of money.

five don't drink

The precept of not drinking is not a fundamental precept, but we should still attach great importance to it, which is of great benefit to our physical and mental purity. If we can abide by the five commandments, we can prevent evil, and it is not difficult to pursue the ten good deeds on this basis. The precept is to stop us from doing it, and if we do it, we will break it. Ten good deeds are required of us, and it is absolutely wrong not to do them, which is very positive. As long as we can conscientiously observe the five precepts and actively pursue the ten good deeds, this is the program of man and nature, which lays a good foundation for us to be human, and only on this basis can we talk about life and death and reincarnation. So don't think it's simple to observe the Five Commandments. This is the starting point of practicing the Birth Law and the foundation of practicing Bodhisattva.

classic explanation of the ten good deeds

Let's introduce the contents of the ten good deeds, focusing on the issues related to our current practice.

article 1

nursing students: from releasing students to nursing students, we should do more to save lives, care for the elderly and the young, help the poor and the disabled, save people from emergencies, mediate disputes and other social welfare undertakings and maintain peace for the society. As Buddhists, we should all be brave enough to undertake such things that are beneficial to society. This is practicing Bodhisattva. For example, in the summer of 1998, three young people gave their lives to save lives in Funanhe, Chengdu, but it caused various discussions. Many people praise their courageous behavior, which is worth promoting. Some people also regret that it is too uneconomical to sacrifice so young! There are still some people who think that this kind of courageous thing is impossible! From the Buddhist point of view, to be able to give up oneself and save others is to practice Bodhisattva. In the past, when Buddhists were practicing Bodhisattva, there were countless examples of giving up the brains of their leaders to save all beings. We ordinary people can make this wish, of course, we can eliminate our own sinful obstacles, increase our wisdom and improve our own realm. There is a record in the Buddhist scriptures: a woman crossed the river with her child in her arms, and accidentally dropped the child into the river. The woman was very sad at that time and desperately jumped into the water to save her child. Her idea was to save the child, and the child was one of all beings, so she died and was born into heaven. We infer from this case that although the three young people are dead, they are bound to live a good life in the next life. You can push the fruit from the cause, which is not wrong.

article 2

the purpose of stealing is to get wealth, but the thief doesn't know that the evil cause is planted, and the result is poverty and hardship. Conversely, planting cloth
