What are your historical misunderstandings about Gansu?

When mentioning Gansu, the only thing that comes to the mind of outsiders may be Lanzhou Beef Ramen. Furthermore, they may think of Zhangye Danxia National Geopark.

When talking about Gansu people, most people have the impression that they are plateau red, rugged, cool, and able to eat and work. It is even said that Gansu people ride camels to go to school.

Here I would like to remind you that you may have some misunderstandings about Gansu.

As you may all know, Gansu is located in the northwest region, connecting Shaanxi to the east, Xinjiang to the west, Sichuan and Qinghai to the south, Ningxia and Inner Mongolia to the north, and Mongolia to the northwest.

So I heard a joke that someone was going to Xinjiang, walked all night, and woke up in Gansu the next day.

Gansu is such a long and narrow area.

You may think that Gansu is short of water?

Not entirely true.

Tianshui, Gansu Province, known as the "Little Jiangnan", has a temperate monsoon climate with an average temperature of about 11 degrees.

This temperature is also very suitable.

Therefore, Tianshui people generally have good skin.

When I was in school, the skin of Tianshui people was very white and delicate. Some boys' skin was so tender that you could squeeze water out of it.

Longnan, Gansu Province, has the only Yangtze River Basin and subtropical climate area in Gansu Province, and its forest coverage rate has reached 41%.

Do you think Gansu is desolate and surrounded by desert, not the best place for tourism?

Then you may not know much about Gansu.

Previously, a piece of information about Gansu, China, excited the people of Gansu.

Gansu defeated Japan's Kamakura, Indonesia's Raja Ampat and other tourist destinations in one fell swoop, and won the Top 1 list of Asia's best tourist destinations in the travel bible "Lonely Earth", and was selected as the ultimate destination for the Asia trip.

It turns out that Gansu is the "Shangri-La" in Waiguoren's mind.

Zhangye City in Gansu Province alone has countless tourist destinations.

I went to college in Zhangye, and I have experienced almost all the scenic spots in Zhangye.

The Zhangye Danxia Geopark, which is well known to you, is just one of the miraculous creations of nature.

The rapeseed flowers in Zhangye are not inferior to those in Qinghai, and the air is cool and the scenery is wide; Pingshan Lake Grand Canyon is suitable for young people, full of exciting and challenging experiences; Yanzhi Mountain has dense natural forests and clear springs flowing out of the faults between the mountains, making it a summer resort.

Horseshoe Temple, Big Buddha Temple, Kangle Grassland, Shandan Army Horse Farm, Zhangye National Wetland Park... countless different landscapes are fascinating.

Tianshui is the "Hometown of Emperor Xi", Maijishan Grottoes, Fuxi Temple, Immortal Cliff; Longnan Guan'e Valley, Wanxiang Cave, Wuhou Temple... I won't introduce them one by one, but here are a few pictures for your enjoyment.

Do you only know Gansu Lanzhou Ramen?

That would be too out.

Oh no, let me correct you here. Gansu people don’t call it “Lanzhou noodles”. The correct name is “Lanzhou beef noodles”.

I have to mention here my hometown - Minqin County, Wuwei, Gansu Province.

Minqin, a border county, has been almost buried by wind and sand several times.

It belongs to the temperate continental arid climate zone and is surrounded by the Tengger and Badain Jaran deserts on the east, west and north sides. The continental desert climate characteristics are very obvious.

The most obvious characteristics of Minqin are cold winters and hot summers, sparse precipitation, sufficient sunlight, a temperature difference of 15.5°C between day and night, and very little annual precipitation.

But the people in my hometown have been fighting against the wind and sand.

But such a small county with a very obvious temperature difference between day and night has used its unique natural conditions to turn it into an advantage, which in turn has promoted local economic growth.

Minqin honeydew melon is moist and sweet, jade-sweet, large and thick-fleshed, with sweet and fragrant juice.

My favorite thing to eat is probably the silver melon, which is pure and refreshingly sweet.

Because it contains more sugar, it is even sweeter than the famous cantaloupe.

In fact, it is a must-have item to relieve the heat in summer.

Do you think Minqin only has desert honeydew melons?

Minqin cold noodles, Minqin steamed buns, Minqin's jelly and cold skin... I'm sorry, there are too many to mention.

I once saw on Zhihu that some people from Hangzhou said that Minqin’s mutton is the only mutton that doesn’t have a smell of mutton. You will know if it tastes good or not after eating it.

Therefore, as a Gansu native, I can objectively evaluate Gansu: a treasure land that combines tourism, food, and cultivation of body and mind.
