The former names of Minhou County in Fuzhou - Jiu Min County and Houguan County

During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Fuzhou was bounded by today's 817th Road. It belonged to the old Min County in the east and Houguan County in the west. The county government of the old Min County was originally located in Mindufang, near the current Provincial Hospital. In the second year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1369), it moved to Xiushifang, which is now the restaurant in Beijing. The county government in Houguan County also had turmoil in its history, but the old Fuzhou people still remember it as the Provincial Health School Department!

The location of the present-day Beijing Restaurant on Fuzhou East Street was called Jiu Min County in ancient times. The section of road in front of the Provincial Health School in the north of today's Daoshan Road was called Houguan County Front.

The old Min County and Houguan County were merged into Minhou County in the second year of the Republic of China (1913). However, the original two county government offices had already formed street names, and they were still used. Although these two streets are very short, they were one of the busiest markets in Fuzhou City in the early years. In the minds of old Fuzhou people, in front of Houguan County, it is connected to Macao Road in the west, directly to Nanhou Street, and to Xianan Street in the east, where merchants gather! As for Old Min County, the city has a longer history. There are Zuotongqu and Fengchifang nearby, and just a stone's throw away from Dongjiekou. It has been a good place for shopping, entertainment and dining since ancient times! This is an important reason why the street names of these two streets, Jiu Min County and Houguan County Qian, are still passed down for a long time even though they can no longer be found from street signs, house numbers and maps.
