I bought a ticket to Hakone at 8:30 in the morning on the fourth day. I originally planned to get to Shinjuku in 1 hour (need to transfer in Shinjuku), but I didn’t expect to encounter the morning rush hour in Tokyo. I finally experienced the crowds in Japan. In the subway (each car has a queue of about 10 meters), it is difficult to squeeze in with two suitcases, but they kindly gave up space.

(It is worth mentioning that when taking trains and buses in Japan, everyone will line up in an orderly manner while waiting for the bus. No one talks loudly, eats, or talks on the phone during the ride, and the carriage is spotless. Clean, really a very comfortable experience.)

After arriving at Shinjuku Station, we rushed all the way to the Odakyu Line. Take the Odakyu Romantic Express and arrive in Hakone in 85 minutes.

Hakone in the rainy early summer is like a replica of the world of Spirited Away, with simple and exquisite buildings and rapid streams watering the town with coolness. Near noon, I ate soba noodles at a small shop near the bridge by the stream. The hot yam and egg noodles are thick and smooth, the cold tempura noodles are springy and crispy, and the misty mountains and rivers are all in front of you. It’s a pleasant lunch.

During my trip to Japan, except for Hakone, I stayed in budget hotels in other places. Since the focus of Hakone is on hot springs, I booked Yoshichi Ryokan, which has a circling Japanese garden and open-air bath. The courtyard room costs 2800rmb/night including dinner and breakfast. The hotel is in an excellent location, just a 10-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station.

The courtyard of Yoshichi Hotel is very exquisite, with plants and trees scattered all over the seasons. Ripe bright yellow apricots fall on the grass so green that they are soaked with juice. Buy two portions of fish food, knead it into powder and sprinkle it finely. Below, huge golden, orange, and cyan carp slowly gathered from all directions.

The noisy chirping of cicadas came like heavy rain. I was the only one in the empty outdoor hot spring in the mountains during the off-season. The fragrant gardenia fragrance and misty drizzle gradually drowned out the time.

Breakfast is also reservation-based, and the time will be confirmed at the end of dinner. When we arrived at the restaurant, tableware and several cold dishes were already placed on our seats.

After the hot spring, I ate hot rice and soup with exquisite side dishes, and then took a walk in the rainy courtyard. It was a morning full of ritual and happiness.
