The ancient architecture takes the north and south Zhongshan Road as the longitudinal axis, which is located on both sides of the road, and then is connected into a whole by countless alleys in the east and west directions. Watchtowers, houses, shops, alleys, city walls and docks are gradually taking shape, with a large number of buildings and complete types. The ingenious combination of national residential buildings and commercial buildings, and the intersection and integration of eastern Guizhou culture, central plains culture and Huizhou merchants culture directly reflect the history of urban development.
Historical origin
1 year, in the 13th year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1534), the magistrate Ao Wenzhen built the Northeast Fucheng. After that, it was built several times before it was perfect. Magistrate Ao Wenzhen built the Northeast Fucheng. Twenty-two years (1543), the abandoned city was expanded into a new city, with 358 feet east and west. The city wall is made of masonry, one foot six feet high, and a deep moat (no water) has been dug.
It was built many times by Li, the magistrate of Sizhou, Zhang Daru and Liu, the defenders of Tongren, and it was perfect. There are 936 walls, 868 battlements, 7 towers, 3 turrets and 8 towers. The east, south and west of the city are covered with double rivers, about 4 Xu Li; There is a moat dug from the north gate to the east, which is about 300 steps long (about 480 meters), one foot deep and one foot eight wide.
In thirty-five years (1607), the city wall was washed away by the flood again. Governor Feng Yiyuan sent more than 900 taels of official silver and donations from local military and political officials to disperse Gai Lou and rebuild the city wall.
2. In the 15th year of Qing Shunzhi (1658), Zhifuliang rebuilt the gates and towers of Shangnanmen, Zhongnanmen and Xiananmen. Since then, the city walls have been repaired in the 9th year of Kangxi (1670), the 37th year of Qianlong (1772), the 3rd year of Daoguang (1823) and the 12th year of Guangchunli (1886).
3. After liberation, most of Tongren City Wall was well preserved. Later, with the development of the city, the city walls were gradually demolished. Now only the wall from Jiangzongmen to Zhongnanmen has been preserved (there is no battlements, but now a female wall railing similar to battlements has been built), and the doorway of Jiangzongmen is still intact. 1980, Tongren ancient city wall was listed as a county-level cultural relics protection unit.
