Plot synopsis of Song of India:

The entire film consists of more than 70 scenes and more than 500 voice-overs.

The characters on the screen do not speak, and the structure of the voice-over is extremely complex.

It includes off-screen narration by two female voices and two male voices, off-screen dialogue by screen characters, the voice of a female beggar, as well as human speech and natural sounds in the environment.

The film actually contains two "stories".

On the surface, it describes the love experience of Anne-Marie Streit, the wife of the French ambassador to India. After her marriage, she fell in love with an Englishman and was later spotted by the French vice-consul in Lahore, India.

He disclosed his love at an embassy reception and was kicked out.

Upon his return to Lahore, he fell into a fit of madness, shooting lepers, dogs, and himself at random, and was eventually dismissed from his post.

Later, Anna traveled to an island with her friends, and he followed her there. Anna was unable to extricate herself from the chaotic love entanglement, and finally committed suicide by throwing herself into the sea.

Behind the film, there is also the story of a crazy woman (female beggar).

She followed Anna from the French colonies in Southeast Asia and often harassed the gardens of the embassy. Several of her children were sold to death.

She herself eventually starved to death on the island.
