Cai Lan's father, Cai Wenxuan, moved to Nanyang from Zhaomencai Village in Chaoan County in his early years. He was a poet and later worked as a director in a branch of Shaw Studio, while his mother Hong was a primary school principal. Cai Lan ranks third in the family.
Cai Lan has lived in Tokyo, new york, Paris, Seoul, Taipei, Barcelona and Bangkok and is familiar with many languages. I studied calligraphy and seal cutting under Mr. Feng Kang.
After Cai Lan arrived in Hong Kong in 1963, he worked as a producer of Shaw, Golden Harvest and other large Southeast Asian film companies for a long time. Producer films include: Fast Food Car, Long Hudou, Lucky Star, City Hunter, Charlie Hebdo, Good Man, Major Crimes and other blockbusters starring Jackie Chan.
