The "Chronicle of Livestock and Poultry Breeds of Guangdong Province" published in 1987 records that Huaixiang chicken originated from Huaixiang Commune in Xinyi County and is currently distributed in Xinyi County. Huaixiang Commune is located in the central part of Xinyi County, in a hilly area. The mountains and villages are scattered and the mountains are rich, allowing chickens to graze and forage. Huaixiang chicken is one of the main sideline incomes that local farmers have raised for generations.

In the past, chicken vendors purchased Huaixiang chickens for export at high prices, stimulating local people to choose large-scale Huaixiang chickens for a long time. The nostalgic chicken breed gradually took shape.
