When I was a child, my mother would make cake ghosts every winter solstice. You must not know what cake ghosts are, haha, of course they are Longyan snacks! Let me introduce:
Longyan people’s unique Winter Solstice delicacy~Winter Solstice Bao (also known as “Ghost Cake”). These winter solstice buns are triangular in shape, one is as big as a palm. When placed on the steamer, they look like a green "pyramid". It smells like a refreshing scent of grass leaves accompanied by a waxy aroma, which is very unique. It turns out that when the weather gets colder, the "Laolongyan" people will go to the mountains to collect ramie or mugwort, pound it, and knead it with glutinous rice. The dough will turn light green and serve as the skin of the "cake ghost". As for the fillings, we usually use plum vegetables, dried bamboo shoots, and shiitake mushrooms, along with pork belly, seasoned, and stir-fried.
When the grass-flavored leaves float out from the steamer lid and the "green clothes" have a slightly crystal clear feel, take it out and take a bite. The skin is waxy and soft, with oily flowers and grass leaves. The taste is refreshing.
"Ghost cake" is a green pastry with a fresh, smooth and tender taste and a fragrant taste. The main dishes are winter bamboo shoots and pickled vegetables, and the taste is made according to their respective preferences.
To make pastries, you need to take four to six ingredients of glutinous rice and rice, then add mugwort and beat it into powder, add an appropriate amount of water and knead it into a dough of moderate hardness, and then add the previously prepared trappings. Cut it into a triangle or two-corner shape, put it into a small white plastic bag, and steam it in a pot for 30 to 45 minutes, then it is ready to be steamed.
It’s a pity that I can’t go home during the winter solstice this year. I miss my mother’s taste so much
Tips: Don’t drink water immediately after eating “ghost cake”, as it can easily cause gastric acid and upset stomach. People should eat less, and not on an empty stomach
This is really delicious and unique. In our place, every household makes this during Qingming Festival and Winter Solstice every year. We also make it It's called gold over silver.
