< p> Allusion Zeng and Zeng Shen, disciples of Confucius, were father and son. After Zeng died, Zeng Shen refused to eat goat dates in memory of his father Zeng. When Mencius's disciple Gongsun Chou heard about it, he asked Mencius which one tasted better, pork or sheep. Mencius said, of course, it was the wondew. Gongsun Chou asked why Zengzi ate the wondew instead of the lamb dates. Mencius told him that it was the result of choosing to avoid taboos. This idiom comes from "Mencius. Try your best", Zeng Zhe was fond of goat dates, but Zeng Zi could not bear to eat goat dates. Gongsun Chou asked: "Which one is more beautiful, water chestnut or lamb jujube?" Mencius said: "Wan Zi Zhi is the best!" Gongsun Chou asked: "Then why did Zengzi eat water chestnut and not sheep jujube?" He said, "Wang Zizhi is the same." Yes, Yangzao is unique. The name is not concealed, the surname is the same, and the name is unique."
In the Spring and Autumn Period, there were two people, a father and a son, who were both disciples of Confucius. His father, Zeng Zhe, loved eating jujubes (a wild fruit commonly known as milk persimmon); his son Zeng Shen was a filial son, but after his father died, he couldn't bear to eat jujubes. This incident was widely praised by Confucian disciples at that time.
During the Warring States Period, Gongsun Chou, a disciple of Mencius, could not understand this matter, so he went to ask his teacher Mencius for advice. Gongsun Chou asked: "Teacher, which one is more delicious, water chestnuts or lamb dates?"
"Of course the water chestnuts are delicious, there is no one who doesn't like eating water chestnuts!" Gongsun Chou asked again: " Since zhizi is delicious, then Zeng Shen and his father also like to eat zhizi, so why doesn’t Zeng Shen stop eating zhizi and only eat lamb dates?
Mencius replied: “Braised” Everyone likes to eat roasted lamb. Although the taste of lamb dates is not as good as that of braised roasted lambs, it is Zeng Zhe’s favorite food. Therefore, Zeng Shen only abstains from eating lamb dates, just like he only taboos calling his elders by their names. The surname is the same, but the name is unique to him."
Mencius' words made Gongsun Chou understand the truth. Later, people derived the idiom "popular among the people" from what Mencius said: "It is popular among people." Used to describe things that everyone praises and poems that are passed down.
