The custom of eating glutinous rice peas, duck eggs and weighing people in the long summer is spread all over the Central Plains, which is said to be related to the story of Zhuge Liang's capture of Meng Huo. At the peak of Shu and Han Dynasties in the Three Kingdoms, the jurisdiction was as far away as central Yunnan, but some ethnic leaders were not completely convinced, and Meng Huo, the leader of Yi nationality in Jianning (now Qujing, Yunnan), was one of the outstanding figures.
After the death of Liu Bei's Baidi City, Zhuge Liang was ordered to entrust orphans and assist the young master. He made a surprise attack, captured seven times, and surrendered to the unruly Meng Huo, which forced him to surrender to the young Emperor Shu Han and Mr. Zhuge. Later, Zhuge Liang became seriously ill. When he died, he specially called Meng Huo and told him face to face: "Although I am dead, my young master Dou is still there. You should visit him at least once a year today. " At that time, it was the long summer season, and Meng Huo was a straightforward person. Once he says yes, he will do it. From then on, he went to Chengdu every summer to visit Liu Chan, the master of Shu. A few years later, Sima Yan, Emperor Wu of Jin Dynasty, destroyed Shu and brought Adou to Luoyang. Meng Huo didn't forget Zhuge Liang's instructions. Every summer, he still took his personal guard to visit Adou in Luoyang. This person is careless, for fear that Adou will be abused. Every time, he used a big scale to weigh Adou himself, and repeatedly told Emperor Wu of Jin that if there were any mistakes, he would never allow them. Seeing that he was so earnest, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty knew that Adou liked sticky and sweet food, so he came up with an idea. Every summer, he ordered people to cook peas and glutinous rice for him early. At this time, new peas are on the market, sweet and fragrant, and rice is delicious. Adou must eat at least two bowls. When Meng Huo arrived, they were all several kilograms heavier than the previous year. No wonder A Dou wants to "have a good time here".
Since then, the practice of cooking peas and glutinous rice in long summer and weighing people has spread among the people and become a custom.
