Zhangshu City is located in central Jiangxi, straddling both banks of the middle reaches of the Gan River. The territory is mainly composed of plains and low hills,[1] ranging from 115°06′33″ to 115°42′23″ east longitude and 27°49′07″ to 28 north latitude.

Between °09′15″; it has a subtropical monsoon climate.

The urban area is located at the intersection of the Zhejiang-Ganxi Railway that runs through Jiangxi and the Ganjiang River that runs through Jiangxi. It borders Fengcheng to the east, Xingan to the south, Xinyu to the west, and Gao'an to the north.

The city has a total area of ??1,291 square kilometers and governs 19 towns (streets) with a total population of 560,100 (mostly Han Jiangyou people), including 233,100 urban residents and 327,000 rural residents. The natural population growth rate is 6.97‰.

Since the sixth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty, Zhangshu land has been divided into three counties: Xingan, Jiancheng and Yichun.

In the second year of Zhongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Hanping County was established in Yichun.

In 1949, the Qingjiang County People's Government was established in Zhangshu Town, which belongs to the Nanchang District Commissioner's Office.

In 1959, it was changed to the Yichun Commissioner's Office.

In October 1988, Qingjiang County was abolished and Zhangshu City was renamed to this day.
