In the early Paleolithic period, there were traces of ancient human activities in present-day Ukraine. The word "Ukraine" first appeared in Historical Records of Ross (1 187), which means "land on the border".
1240 The Mongolian Imperial Expeditionary Force (Badou) occupied Kiev. After that, the Mongolian Golden Horde, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland successively ruled Ukraine.
1654, Ukrainian cossack leader Khmelnitski signed the Treaty of Peleyaslav with the Russian czar, and Ukraine and Russia formally merged. Since then, Ukraine has its own government, but it has not played a substantive role.
1922 joined the Soviet union (western Ukraine joined in 1939).
On July 1990, the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine adopted the Declaration on National Sovereignty of Ukraine.
On August 24th, Ukraine declared its independence.
