shaxi town, Taicang City is located in the north-central part of Taicang City, about 15 kilometers away from the urban area. It is a satellite town in the urban area and receives radiation from the urban area. 5 kilometers away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, Shaxi is an ancient water town with a long history, unique scenery and rich products. shaxi town began in the late Yuan Dynasty. During the reign of Hongzhi in the Ming Dynasty, towns became increasingly prosperous. Up to now, the pattern of one river, two streets, three bridges and one island has been preserved in the area:
"One river" refers to Qiputang, which has a history of more than 1, years and is an ancient river channel excavated by Fan Zhongyan in the Song Dynasty;
"Second Street" refers to two old streets in Henan and Tangbei, which are built along the banks of the old Qipu River and are 1.5 kilometers long from east to west, and there are more than 6 houses and 4,2 houses in the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, which are in groups and scattered.
"Three Bridges" refers to three ancient bridges, namely Yixing Bridge, An Bridge and Xinqiao, which are connected with the old street in Tangbei, Henan Province, and are water-facing houses built to adapt to water-side life and freight transportation. Every family has a water pier and a shed (hanging house and water pavilion house), and there are water alleys every three or five households, forming a unique street-facing architectural style of Shaxi ancient town.
"One Island" refers to Olive Island, which was cut off during the artificial excavation of Xinqipu River in 1954.
The ancient town still retains the historical remains of the ancient urban defense system, such as the alley gate, the bridge gate, the watchtower, etc., and inherits the architectural legacy of Shaxi area since the Song Dynasty. There is one cultural relics protection unit in Jiangsu Province in the ancient town, namely Gong's Carving Hall and 16 cultural relics protection units in Taicang. Wu Xiaobang's former residence, Leyin Garden and Shaxi Museum of Literature and History have been opened to the public.
The ancient water town in the south of the Yangtze River is the most remarkable feature of Shaxi. "Gu Xiang has the same household width, the ancient street is three miles long, the ancient bridge is a single hole, the ancient houses are all beams, every household has carved flowers, every family has long windows, the bridge enters at the front door, and the boat swings in front of the door", which constitutes a beautiful and elegant water town genre painting. Shaxi town's folk customs are interesting and simple, and the folk lantern festival is full of fun. Shaxi incense has been very popular since ancient times, especially in Fusaiji, Changshou Temple and Yanzhen Temple. Shaxi's lard rice candy, Taozhen cake, Pan Xiang cake, Tu Songshan taro and other flavor snacks and specialties are also famous far and near.

Shaxi was once one of the cradles of national industry in history and an important industrial town in Taicang. In the thirty-second year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty, Jitai Sand Factory (the predecessor of Litai Textile Factory), the first textile industry in Jiangsu Province, was born in Zhenxi Street.
Olive Island
Zhu Guangya, an ancient architect in China, believes that the waterfront buildings in Shaxi have their own advantages compared with Tongli and Zhouzhuang. Every household has a shed, a water bridge and a long window overlooking the river, and the backs of houses, doors and windows are beautifully carved, which is rich in the characteristics of Jiangnan water town. In 23, Shaxi, Gui Zhuang and Yuewang merged to form shaxi town, and the town government was located in Baiyun Road, Shaxi.
