Lugu Lake is a plateau fault-eroded lake located at the junction of Sichuan and Yunnan. Lugu Lake is located at the junction of southwest Sichuan Province and northwest Yunnan Province, with geographical coordinates of 1 45 ~ 1 51 east longitude and 27 41 ~ 27 45 north latitude. The lake is 2689.8~269.8 m above sea level, which is under the jurisdiction of two provinces, Yanyuan County in Sichuan in the east and Pingxian County in Yunnan in the west. Lugu Lake is a plateau fault dissolution and subsidence lake formed by neotectonic movement and external force dissolution in the middle Quaternary. Lugu Lake is a natural freshwater lake, belonging to Jinsha River water system. The lake is slightly northwest-southeast, with a length of 9.5 kilometers from north to south and a width of 5.2 kilometers from east to west. The shoreline of the lake is about 44 kilometers long, and the part of Sichuan is 2 kilometers. The lake covers an area of 5.1 square kilometers, including 31.2 square kilometers in Sichuan. The catchment area of the lake is 247.6 square kilometers, and that of Sichuan is 14.6 square kilometers. The maximum water depth of Lugu Lake is 15.3 m, and the lake area with a water depth exceeding 5 m accounts for about half of the whole lake area, with an average water depth of 4.3 m, a reservoir capacity of 2.252 billion m3 and a maximum transparency of 12 m..
