Qijiang farmers' prints rose after the reform and opening up, and the ancient cultural tradition of Qijiang provided conditions for its rise. Qijiang is located at the junction of Chongqing and Guizhou, inhabited by 17 ethnic groups. The ancient folk arts such as stone carving, wood carving, clay sculpture, paper-cutting, batik and cake mold, as well as the widely circulated folk songs and folk customs, have given peasant writers vivid and rich expression connotations, and they have injected these folk arts into prints. Qijiang farmers' unique bold, open-minded and imaginative personality endows prints with vivid, lively, bright, childish and humorous characteristics, which embodies unique aesthetics and values. At the beginning of 1983, the first farmers' printmaking training course was held in sanjiang town Cultural Station, and then farmers' printmaking training courses came into being one after another, and printmaking was created all over the county. He has created outstanding prints such as Harvesting, Giving Grain to the Public, Cuckoo Calling, Yangko, Muye Qing, Liulusheng Dance and the folk tale Ghost Story, which reflect the changes in rural areas. On New Year's Day, 1984, farmers' prints of Qijiang were exhibited in Beijing for the first time, which was warmly welcomed by Beijing audience and capital art circles. People's Daily, People's Pictorial, Printmaking World and other newspapers have successively published printmaking works, and famous artists such as Cai Ruohong, Wang Chaowen, Hua Junwu and Wang Qi have published critical articles, praising the outstanding achievements of farmers' printmaking in Qijiang. Since 1985, farmers' prints in Qijiang have been exhibited in more than 1 countries, including the United States, Japan, France, Italy, Canada and Britain. Art societies and friendly people from more than 1 countries have visited Qijiang to inspect the creation of farmers' prints. The Japan-China Art Research Association and Printmaking World magazine awarded the "Golden Cup Award" to farmers' prints in Qijiang for their exemplary role in developing farmers' art in the international community. In February 1988, the Ministry of Culture named Qijiang as "China Modern Folk Painting Hometown". In 1994, Qijiang Arts and Crafts Factory, which mainly produces farmer prints, was established, and farmers' prints began to be sold everywhere.
