Fried stones.
In Zigui and Enshi in Hubei, local elders have a tradition of eating stones.
This dish is called "Suodiuer", which can also be called fried stones, and what is stir-fried are real small stones, which are small pebbles picked up from the river, and then put into a pot and stir-fried into a dish.
Cooking is also very simple. Wash the pebbles, put them into the pot, then add various seasonings, mix them with the pebbles, and then heat them.
When eating, you don't really put the stone into your stomach, but you taste the smell on the stone and stimulate your taste buds, so you can eat more rice.
After chewing the stone for a few times, spit it out. The stone can be reused. Just wash it after eating and let it dry naturally. You can pour the stone out and stir-fry it into "vegetables" for the next meal.
Sometimes, the local old people in Hubei will fry the stones until fragrant and drink them with wine. Take a sip of wine and rub the stones together, which looks delicious.
Legend has it that this "Sou Diu Er" was invented decades ago. The local dock workers couldn't eat because of the hot weather. In order to have the strength to work more, they picked up the small stones on the shore and took them home, adding various heavy weights to them.
Cooking with flavorful seasonings allows the seasonings to hang on the surface of the stone, making it taste delicious and allowing you to eat more meals.
