Li Leyou was born in Zhongwa Village, Jiache Township, Honghe County, Yunnan Province in 2003. He belongs to the Hani ethnic minority.

Her mother passed away when she was half a year old, and her father was later imprisoned. She was raised by her grandparents and had a sister-in-law at home.

At the age of 4, Li Leyou began to have thoughts and found that he was different from the children of the same age around him.

Since Li Leyou's father was imprisoned, his grandparents' health has not been as good as before, but in order to support their granddaughter, they will do some odd jobs to earn living expenses.

She just does housework and cooking at home, waiting for her grandparents to come home.

Sometimes her grandparents come back late, so she can only go to bed first. Due to lack of security and fear, she can only fall asleep with the light on.

The grandparents earned enough money to cover the family's expenses. They had no extra money to buy clothes for their granddaughter, and it would take three years to mend one piece of clothing.

When she was in elementary school, Li Leyou had to walk two hours to get to school, so her grandparents spent huge sums of money to let her board.

But she had no friends at school, and was even bullied by her classmates. She was called "the child of a reform-through-labor prisoner, and her mother ran away." She gradually became low-self-esteem, introverted and didn't like to talk.

After returning home, she asked her grandparents where her parents had gone.

In front of her grandparents, she acted like a strong little adult, but behind her back she secretly shed tears and often fantasized about what it would be like to have parents.

At the end of 2014, a group of outsiders suddenly came to the village, intending to find rural protagonists in the village.

Visiting door to door, no suitable candidate was found until looking at a girl dressed in rags.

The staff came up to ask about her situation. They were very satisfied with the little girl and asked what her name was.

Li Leyou.

The director told her: I am here to help you. Do you long for maternal love?
