Yichang Three Gorges Airport is an important supporting project of the Three Gorges Project. It is located in Xiaoting District, Yichang City, 26KM from the city center, 55KM from the Three Gorges Dam, and connected to the Yihuang Expressway to the north. The highway is adjacent to the golden waterway of the Yangtze River in the south and the Jiaozhi Railway in the east. The project of Yichang Three Gorges Airport was approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission on January 18, 1993; construction officially started in September 1994; it passed the national completion acceptance in October 1996; it obtained the airport use license and was officially opened to navigation on December 28, 1996. Yichang Three Gorges Airport is planned according to 4E-level standards, and the first phase of the project is constructed according to 4D-level standards. It covers an area of ??3966.4 acres. The existing runway is 2600M long, 45M wide and 0.38M thick, which can accommodate the take-off and landing of B737, B757, B767, A320 and other similar and smaller aircraft models; the apron has 6 parking spaces; the terminal building area is 14,816 square meters. The completion and opening of Yichang Three Gorges Airport has established the modern three-dimensional transportation pattern of Yichang City, established an air bridge from Yichang and the Three Gorges area to the country and the world, and accelerated Yichang City's opening up to the outside world and its progress towards becoming a world-class city. .

Yichang Three Gorges Airport Co., Ltd. was established on January 18, 2002. On June 16, 2004, HNA Group reorganized the Three Gorges Airport. On August 5, 2004, Yichang Three Gorges Airport Co., Ltd. was restructured into Yichang Three Gorges Airport Co., Ltd. Registered capital: 177 million yuan; shareholders are: HNA Airport Group Co., Ltd. (accounting for 90% of the shares), Yichang Financial and Economic Investment and Development Company (accounting for 10% of the shares). Production and operation:

Since the airport was opened to traffic, air transport volume has increased significantly year by year. As of 2005, it had safely flown 32,050 flights, transported 2.0818 million passengers, and handled 19,000 tons of cargo and mail. It has successfully completed the security tasks of 62 special flights, 4 military air transports, and 9 international (regional) temporary direct charter flights for party and state leaders and foreign heads of state. The goals for the Air Transport and Air Defense Safety Year have been achieved for nine consecutive years. After the reorganization, Yichang Three Gorges Airport set a historical record of annual passenger throughput of 347,000 in 2004, and exceeded the 400,000 mark in 2005. It is estimated that in 2006, the annual passenger throughput of Yichang Three Gorges Airport will reach 480,000, the number of flight takeoffs and landings will reach 6,200, and the cargo and mail throughput will reach 3,700 tons.

Flight routes:

Yichang Three Gorges Airport has opened 24 domestic routes since its opening in December 1996, as well as foreign and regional routes. There are 4 temporary routes connecting Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Haikou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Enshi, Changsha, Zhangjiajie, Wuhan, Nanjing, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Qingdao, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Wenzhou, Nanning, Xiamen, Shantou, Huangshan; Hong Kong, Toyama, Nagoya, Niigata and other cities in Japan.

The route cities currently operated by Yichang include: Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Xi'an, and Wuhan.
