Pingyao used to be called "ancient pottery". In the early Ming Dynasty, the city wall was built to prevent foreign countries from disturbing the south. In the third year of Hongwu (AD 1370), the old city wall was rebuilt and expanded, and all of it was made of bricks. Since then, Jingtai, Zhengde, Jiajing, Qin Long and Wanli have been renovated for ten times, the towers have been updated and enemy towers have been added. In the 43rd year of Kangxi (AD 1703), because the emperor visited Pingyao on his way to the west, he built four towers, which made the city more spectacular.
The ancient city of Pingyao looks like a turtle, and its walls are magnificent. The residential buildings in Pingyao City have strict layout, clear axis, clear priorities, undulating contours and deep courtyards. The colored sculptures in Shuanglin Temple are the pinnacle of China colored sculpture art; The Millennium Treasure Zhenguo Temple is an outstanding example of "China Ancient Architectural Art".
Pingyao ancient city is also an important birthplace of Shanxi merchants, where the Rishengchang draft bank "Huitong Tianxia" was born. She introduced the concept of "bank" for the first time in the history of China, and witnessed the beginning of China's financial development history, becoming the originator of China's financial industry.
