The four famous temples in Wuhan include Guiyuan Temple, Baotong Temple, Gude Temple and Lianxi Temple.
1. Guiyuan Zen Temple Guiyuan Zen Temple is located on Guiyuan Temple Road, Hanyang District, Wuhan City. It was built by Master Bai Guang in the 15th year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1658 AD).
Guiyuan Zen Temple covers an area of ??153 acres, has more than 200 temples, and more than 7,000 volumes of various Buddhist classics. It belongs to the Caodong Sect, one of the five schools and seven sects of Zen Buddhism.
Guiyuan Zen Temple is one of the most important temples in Wuhan and is also the seat of the Wuhan Buddhist Association.
It is a daily custom for many Wuhan citizens to come to Guiyuan Temple to pray.
2. Baotong Zen Temple Baotong Zen Temple is located at the southern foot of Hongshan Mountain in Wuchang. It is the only royal temple in Wuhan.
It was originally named Dongshan Temple and was built during the Liu and Song Dynasties of the Southern Dynasties. It has a history of more than 1,600 years. Historically, it has received strong support from ten emperors including Tang Wenzong and six princes. It is the most exemplary royal temple.
Baotong Zen Temple is famous for its three springs in the temple and strange rocks on the mountain. The famous existing building in the temple is the Hongshan Pagoda.
3. Gude Temple Gude Temple is located at No. 74, Landslide, Huangpu Road, Hankou, Wuhan City. It is hidden in the intricate small streets and alleys of the Hankou section under the Second Yangtze River Bridge.
The temple was founded by Long Xi in the third year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, with the meaning of "a heart that loves the ancients and is universally virtuous".
Gude Temple combines the characteristics of European and Asian religious architecture. It is the only Chinese Buddhism and one of the only two Buddhist buildings of this style in the world.
It is a temple with a rich exotic architectural style, and a Thai Erawan Buddha is enshrined in the courtyard.
4. Lianxi Temple Lianxi Temple is located in Panlong Mountain, 7.5 kilometers outside Dadongmen of Wuchang, Wuhan City. It is one of the four major Buddhist jungles in Wuhan.
In Wuhan, there are only two temples specifically for nuns to practice, one is Longhua Temple and the other is Lianxi Temple.
The Lianxi Temple is much larger than the Longhua Temple and is the largest nun training temple in Wuhan.
Lianxi Temple was founded in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties. The entire courtyard has a rigorous structure and proper layout, and has the style of Chinese wooden structure architecture.
