"Silver Empire" is a Qing Dynasty drama film adapted from the novel "Silver Valley" by writer Cheng Yi. It is directed by Yao Shuhua and stars Aaron Kwok, Hao Lei, Zhang Tielin, Du Jiang and others.
The film tells the story of the inheritance and love triangle between father and son Tian Chengyuan, a Shanxi banker who was extremely wealthy in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.
The film was released in mainland China on August 21, 2009 and won the Best Film Award at the 29th Hawaii International Film Festival and the Jury Award at the 12th Shanghai International Film Festival.
Mr. Kang, played by Aaron Kwok in Silver Empire, speaks Shanxi dialect.
