When the weather is hot, make this pastry more for your family to eat. It’s soft, glutinous, sweet, nutritious and healthy, and you can make it with just one steamer!
Every summer, for those of you who have a lot of rice, flour and other grains stored at home, you have to pay attention to the preservation of these foods since the beginning of summer. If you are not careful, you will get insects.
For the preservation of rice, flour and other grains, Ruoyu’s mother recommends two methods.
The first method: If the refrigerator at home is large enough, you can refrigerate or freeze the whole grains directly. Insects will not grow in low-temperature environments.
The second method: Prepare some mineral water bottles, dry the water, put the whole grains in them, seal them well, and insects will not breed in a closed space.
In addition, once you find that rice, flour and other grains are infested with insects, be sure not to expose them to the sun. The more exposed they are, the more active the insects will be!
Of course, it is still recommended that you buy as little rice, flour and other cereals as possible during this season, and eat them as soon as possible after buying them.
I believe everyone has been eating zongzi recently, so did you have some glutinous rice left when making zongzi?
When I was cleaning up the cupboard today, I saw some glutinous rice left over from making rice dumplings, and I thought about eating it quickly to avoid getting bugs.
Glutinous rice, brown sugar and red dates have always been the best partners. It not only strengthens the spleen and warms the stomach, but also beautifies the skin.
Combine the three, steam it in a pot, it will be soft, glutinous, sweet, nutritious and healthy. It is both a staple food and a snack, suitable for all ages.
With just a few simple ingredients, you can make elastic, soft, glutinous and nutritious red date, brown sugar and glutinous rice cakes in just one steamer. Let’s take a look at how to make it!
Ingredients: glutinous rice, red dates, brown sugar, blackcurrants, dried osmanthus.
Step 1. Soak the glutinous rice for half a day in advance, so that the steaming time can be shortened.
Just wash the red dates and black currants, no need to soak them.
Prepare some brown sugar.
2. Brush the bottom and sides of the mold with a layer of oil, core the red dates and cut them into long strips, and place them at the bottom of the mold spaced apart from the black currants.
I used a four-inch chiffon mold. If you don’t have a mold, you can also use a bowl. Apply a layer of cooking oil to the bottom and sides of the bowl.
3. Put some glutinous rice on top of the red dates and black currants. In order to make the finished product beautiful, don’t be too rough when adding it.
Then put a layer of brown sugar on top of the glutinous rice. Black currants and red dates are very sweet in themselves. It is not recommended to put too much brown sugar, just a thin layer will do.
4. Spread another layer of blackcurrants and red dates.
Feel free to substitute other ingredients if you like.
5. Place another layer of glutinous rice on top, and gently pour some water into it, just enough to cover the glutinous rice.
6. Boil water in a pot, put in the mold, and steam over high heat for 25 minutes.
The steaming time is adjusted according to the amount of food each person makes.
Make a circle around the edge of the prepared red dates, brown sugar and glutinous rice cakes. Use a toothpick to make a circle, turn it upside down in a bowl and it will come out easily. Sprinkle some dried sweet-scented osmanthus to enhance the flavor. Take a bite and it will be soft, glutinous and sweet, which will stimulate your appetite.
