You can go to Cuihu Park, the former site of Yunnan Army Lecture Hall, Yunnan University, the former site of Southwest Associated University and Zhengyi Square.

1. Cuihu Park Cuihu is located in the center of Kunming. It was originally part of Dianchi Lake. Due to the drop in water level, a clear lake was left among the high-rise buildings.

Because of the green willows and bamboos surrounding it, it was named "Green Lake Park".

As the center of Kunming’s cultural circle, Green Lake connects popular attractions including Yunnan University, Cultural Alley and Zhengyi Square.

Green Lake is a paradise for red-billed gulls.

Every winter, this kind of seagull from Siberia comes here to enjoy the sunshine of the Spring City with people.

When you throw gull food at them, groups of white figures fly up and down, and the scenery is spectacular.

2. The former site of the Yunnan Army Lecture Hall The Army Lecture Hall is located on the west side of Cuihu Park. The orange-yellow Republic of China-style building makes it particularly conspicuous among the greenery.

This military academy where the Qing government trained the "New Army" once produced outstanding generals including Zhu De, Ye Jianying, and Lu Han.

The entire building adopts Yunnan's most distinctive horse-walking turret structure. The corridors are spacious and connected in a circular shape, allowing for horse-walking, just like a small castle.

When you walk into the building, you can see the appearance of the old military training ground.

3. Yunnan University It has been nearly a hundred years since Yunnan University was founded. The campus is full of historical buildings and landscapes full of humanistic atmosphere.

As a landmark building of Yunda University, Huizeyuan's typical French-style architecture represents the urban style of Kunming at the same time.

At the end of the Longmen Road with ninety-five steps is the spirit of Yun Da with the characters "Hui Ze Bai Jia Zhi Gong Tian Xia".

The Yunnan Gongyuan, where the imperial examinations were held during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, is still preserved on the campus.

You can also take a look at the Yingqiu Courtyard and Zeqing Hall designed and built by Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin.

4. The former site of Southwest Associated University After leaving Yunnan University, a few minutes walk along 121 Street is Yunnan Normal University.

This is also the former site of the famous Southwest Associated University.

Southwest Associated University was jointly formed by Peking University, Tsinghua University and Tianjin Nankai University during the Anti-Japanese War. It has trained two Nobel Prize winners and nearly a hundred academicians. It can be called the Mount Everest in the history of Chinese education.

5. Zhengyi Fang Zhengyi Fang is a complex of buildings on the west side of Zhengyi Road and Zhengyi West Street.

Just like Chunxi Road in Chengdu, this commercial pedestrian area shows the combination of history and fashion in Kunming.

Simple modern architecture is interspersed with blue tile roofs and traditional carved arches.

Walking to the square at the end of Zhengyi Road, you can take a look at Kunming’s iconic Golden Horse and Jade Rooster.
