Most houses in the city are semi-basement buildings with gravel masonry walls, and there are about 40 existing houses. This ancient stone city is located on the main road leading from Kashgar Oasis to Central Asia and South Asia, and the roads leading from Kashgar, Yengisar, Yecheng and shache to Pamirs meet here. Shitou Town is located on the Pamirs at the western end of the Silk Road in Xinjiang, 30 meters east of the county seat of Tashkurgan Tajik Autonomous County in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and north of Kashi Road. It is one of the three major stone cities in China (Liaoning Shicheng, Nanjing, Tashkurgan Stone City), a passport for business travelers to enter South Asia and West Asia, and a historical witness to the rise and fall of the Silk Road.
Tashkurgan means "Stone Town" in Uyghur and "Puli" in Han Dynasty. It is located in the mountains and hills southwest of Afasayaf Mountain and Tashkurgan River, and is connected with Tashkurgan County. The existing city walls, city gates, temples and residential sites have been preserved, and they overlap with the official building Pulitang in the Qing Dynasty. The perimeter of the site building is 985m, with a total area of10700m2.
The north wall is 80 meters long and has a staggered adobe structure. The east wall is 350 meters long, built on a cliff and made of stone; The wall of Chengnan City is 375 meters long, and the foundation of the wall collapses. The west city wall is180m long and is stored in the ruins of the city gate after it collapses.
