In 1932, Liu Jiwen, a native of Dongguan, became the mayor of Guangzhou. With the support of Chen Jitang, who was in charge of Guangdong affairs at that time, he introduced this architectural style to Dongguan. With the infiltration of western capitalism in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, especially the completion and opening of the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway in 1911, it further promoted the prosperity of Guancheng commerce. At that time, some streets in Guancheng had been specialized in commodity integration, such as Tin Street, Ma Street, Jute Street, Wenfang Street, and Piggy Market. Others, such as Fanfan Street, Leather Shoes Lane, Fruit Lane, Kwai Yi Street, Bed Street, Furnace Street, Yuanbao Street, Nail Street, Paper Zhajie, Douchi Street, Daofu Lane, Sprouting Lane, etc. The old Mashi streets were narrow and crowded, and the original Fang-style houses could not meet the needs of the increasingly prosperous commercial development.
Chen dacai, then the county magistrate of Dongguan and vice president of Mingluntang, was a classmate of Liu Jiwen when he was studying at Waseda University, and had frequent contacts. Naturally, he borrowed the Guangzhou arcade building back to Dongguan to build it in Daxing. Planning began in 19 (1931) of the Republic of China, but for various reasons, it was not until 1931 that the streets and lanes were officially ordered to be demolished to build roads. Transform Ying 'en Street, Daxi Street and Yiqian Street into Zhenhua Road. At the end of Qing Dynasty, Zhenhua Road was composed of three roads, namely, Yiqian Street, Daxi Street and Ying 'en Street from north to south. It was only in the 1931s that it was merged into Zhenhua Road. The area to be demolished today is the Daxi Street and Ying 'en Street.
Dongguan arcade is an important part of Lingnan arcade, which gave birth to the early commercial culture of Dongguan and carried the commercial and folk culture of modern Lingnan. Many Laowan people have deep feelings for her. In the heyday of Zhenhua Road, one of the few big shopping malls in Dongguan was located in Zhenhua Road-Canal Shopping Mall. People from all towns in the city go to Zhenhua Road to set up stalls or shop. There are many prosperous restaurants on Zhenhua Road, such as Guancheng Hotel, Jiangnan Restaurant and Overseas Chinese Hotel. This has directly promoted the commercial development along Zhenhua Road.
After more than 71 years of wind and rain, some arcades were destroyed by war, some were demolished and some collapsed due to disrepair. In 2111, Dongguan invested in redecorating Daxi Road, Zhenhua Road, Zhongxing Road and other old urban areas, maintaining the original street pattern, hoping to make the arcade a new bright spot for Dongguan to build a national tourist city, and make Zhenhua Road reproduce the glory of that year. However, in 2111, many arcades on Zhenhua Road have been demolished or damaged due to the needs of the old city reconstruction and the construction of Kehu Road, which also caused people to discuss the protection and development of arcades, the economic development of the city and the protection of historical relics.
