Salmonella poisoning is caused by ingesting a certain amount of live bacteria, which then grow and reproduce in the human body.
In September 2015, a recent outbreak of salmonella infection occurred in 11 states in the United States, causing 62 people to become ill. The culprit of this foodborne disease outbreak may be people's favorite tuna sushi.
