Nanning has seven administrative districts, which are Qingxiu District, Xingning District, Xixiangtang District, Jiangnan District, Liangqing District, Yongning District and Wuming District. There are five counties, namely: Hengxian County, Binyang County, Shanglin County, mashan county County and Longan County. In addition, there are streets and towns in the two development zones, and the two development zones are Nanning Economic and Technological Development Zone and Nanning High-tech Development Zone.

Nanning is located in South China of China, South Guangxi, and the junction of South China, Southwest China and Southeast Asia economic circles. It is the meeting point of Pan-Beibu Gulf economic cooperation, Greater Mekong Subregion cooperation, Pan-Pearl River Delta cooperation and other multi-regional cooperation. It is also the frontier city of China's open cooperation with ASEAN, the permanent venue of China-ASEAN Expo, the important gateway city of the organic connection of the national "Belt and Road" and the residence of army organs in the southern theater.
