Are ear shells weevils?
The ear shell is not a mussel, they are two different kinds of shellfish. Although they are both aquatic animals, they belong to different families and genera, and have different forms and habits. Ear shell is a flat shellfish, belongs to the ear clam family, widely distributed in freshwater and saltwater environments. They have a triangular shell with distinctive folds and usually grow in waters with silty or sandy substrates. They are filter-feeders, obtaining nutrients by filtering plankton and organic matter from the water. The elephant mussel is a large freshwater shellfish that belongs to the mussel family. They grow at the bottom of freshwater lakes or rivers, usually buried in sediment. Elephant mussels have long oval shells that are very hard and can be up to 1 meter long and weigh up to 50 kilograms. They are also filter feeders, feeding on plankton and organic matter. Although both earwigs and weevils are aquatic animals, their morphology and habits are very different. The earwig is a small, flat shellfish that grows in waters with a silty or sandy substrate, while the weevil mussel is a large freshwater shellfish that grows on the bottom of freshwater lakes or rivers.
