There are three methods for long-term storage of potatoes for one year, namely the black plastic bag storage method, the dry sand burial method, and the salt water soaking and rubbing method.
1. Storage method in black plastic bags
Storing in black plastic bags can prevent potatoes from photosynthesis. You can also dry the moisture in the potato skins in advance, and add napkins and cartons. It can absorb moisture and ensure that the environment around potatoes is dry; therefore, potatoes stored in this way will not sprout or turn black even if they are stored for a year.
When storing, first put the potatoes in a ventilated and cool place, dry the moisture in the skin, then put them in a black plastic bag, put a few napkins in the bag, and then put them in a carton Just inside.
2. Dry sand burial method
If you have a larger bucket or a larger and deeper box at home, this method is good. The specific method is to prepare it first Put some sand in the sun for a day, collect it after drying, and let it cool for later use; put all the potatoes in a box or bucket, and then pour in the dried sand.
3. Salt water soaking and rubbing method
The salt water soaking and rubbing method is to clean the sediment on the potato skin first, then pour half a basin of water into the basin, and then pour half a bag into it. Salt, mix well, put the potatoes and soak them in salt water for 10 minutes, then take them out and drain them, then take them to a cool and ventilated place to dry them thoroughly! Then put the potatoes into a carton and put them in a shade, so that the potatoes will not breed bacteria and will be stored longer.
Precautions for storing potatoes
Do not put potatoes in direct sunlight. Doing so will cause the potato skin to change color or the potatoes to become damaged and moldy, making the potatoes inedible. The correct method is to dry them in a naturally ventilated place in the shade, and finally, wrap the potatoes in breathable packaging bags and put them in a dry place. Potatoes should be stored in a cool, dry, dark place. Cover with paper during storage to reduce water evaporation and prevent premature shrinkage.
Do not wrap potatoes in foil when storing, otherwise the potatoes will become moldy due to moisture. Buy a small amount of potatoes at a time. Since many modern households do not have storage warehouses with suitable temperatures, it is not advisable to buy too much. Potatoes can be kept in the refrigerator for a short period of time if the temperature does not drop below 4°C. Potatoes like low temperatures, and the suitable storage temperature is 1~3°C. If it is lower than 0°C, they are susceptible to frostbite.
